How did Japanese female volleyball beauty Sato make Brazil 'tremble'?

Once again, striker Yoshino Sato made fans talk, but this time thanks to a brilliant performance against Brazil.

On the afternoon of September 7, Sato and her teammates on the Japanese team lost to Brazil in the bronze medal match of the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Championship. This result caused a lot of regret, because the Asian representative played resiliently to bring the match to set 5 despite losing 2 sets first.

Unfortunately, at the decisive moment, Brazil did better to win 18-16. Japan lost the bronze medal, but the name Yoshino Sato still received countless praise.

Since the beginning of the tournament, the 2001-born main attacker has not had many good matches. Among the 3 main attackers, she is the one who has scored the least points. Before the semi-final match, according to statistics, Mayu Ishikawa had a total of 118 points, followed by Yukiko Wada with 87 points.

Sato, on the other hand, only had 66 points despite rarely being substituted. The problem with this main attacker is that she doesn't have the same "damaging" smashes as her teammates. Many of her attacks are blocked by the opponent, or go out.

In the semi-final match against Türkiye, it was Sato who sent the ball across the field in the decisive moment and made Japan lose the match. This moment made the athlete born in 2001 cry a lot.

Not only right after the match but also during the interview, she continued to sob and take the blame.

Just one day later, Yoshino Sato cried again, but this time not because she felt guilty. It was because she played such a good match, so excellently against Brazil, which was even stronger than Türkiye.

Over 5 sets, Sato scored 34 points in various ways. In addition to 29 attack points, she also had 2 blocks and 3 serves.

This number surpasses the performance of two legendary former Japanese women's volleyball players, Yukiko Ebata and Saori Kimura, when they each scored 33 points in the 2012 Olympic quarter-final against China.

It seems that admitting her mistakes helped Sato overcome her weaknesses. Thanks to that, the volleyball beauty of the Japanese team made Brazil "tremble" and surprised.

Unfortunately, that was not enough to help her win the bronze medal at the World Cup. This was the match where Ishikawa (23 points) and Wada (13 points) played poorly, perhaps because they were tired from the previous matches. That was why Sato alone could not help Japan defeat Brazil. Her tears today were definitely because of regret, not because she felt ashamed of her teammates.
