As reported, at around 9am on August 7, on the road section passing through Mao Sao Chai village (connecting National Highway 4 with Sin Cheng commune), a sinkhole appeared with a circumference of about 16m, 6m deep, and the volume of collapsed rock and soil was estimated at about 100m³.
Immediately after receiving the news, the People's Committee of Sin Cheng commune coordinated with the commune police to put up warning ropes, put up traffic signs, and at the same time organized a survey to develop a solution.

The remedial works encountered many difficulties. Due to the deep hole and complex geology, the construction units had to do it manually, using layered stone cages for reinforcement, and machines only supported the external leveling.

To fill the hole, the commune government used 30 iron baskets containing nearly 60m³ of rubble (linked together) to drop into the bottom of the hole to create an anti-collapse foundation, then poured 20m³ of crushed stone to fill the gap and level the ground to ensure the temporary tightness of the roadbed.
Mr. Vien Dinh Hiep, Chairman of the People's Committee of Sin Cheng Commune, said that by early this afternoon (August 10), the work to fix the sinkhole had basically been completed to open the first phase of the traffic route, motorbikes and cars could now pass normally.
Although the road has been cleared, we are still monitoring the stability of the sinkhole. Vehicles and people passing through here need to pay attention to prevent sudden sinkholes that cause traffic safety problems.

Due to the special geological structure, Sin Cheng commune and the communes of the old Si Ma Cai district often have sinkholes related to underground caster caves, especially during periods of prolonged heavy rain. Therefore, people need to be vigilant to ensure safety.
