4-week scholarship in the US for female students in grades 10 and 11

Three Vietnamese female students with a passion for STEM have the opportunity to receive full scholarships for a 4-week experience at Virginia Tech University, USA.

The US Mission in Vietnam announced on November 8 that it is looking for candidates for the TechGirls 2024 scholarship program. The deadline for applications is 11 p.m. on December 8 (Vietnam time).

Three full scholarships will be awarded to female students in grades 10 and 11 who speak English well, love STEM ( Science , Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), and plan to pursue a career in technology. Applicants must demonstrate leadership through academic performance, community involvement, and extracurricular activities.

The scholarship covers travel, accommodation, study materials and other living expenses.

TechGirls, an initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is a summer exchange program for girls aged 15 to 17 who want to study and work in STEM fields. This year’s program will take place in July-August 2024 at Virginia Tech. 111 girls from 37 countries and territories, along with more than 13 American students, will be selected to participate.

Students will attend a computer and interactive technology camp, then travel to one of Austin, Chicago, Cincinnati, Denver, Detroit, Portland, or Seattle for networking and career exploration. They will also experience host family life and social activities. At the end of their program in the US, students will participate in a local community project of their own design, funded by the US State Department.

Launched in 2012, TechGirls has awarded scholarships to 653 female students. The program initially focused on countries in the Middle East and North Africa, then expanded globally in 2022.
