Recently, Hanoi announced a list of more than 60 schools that lowered their 10th grade admission scores, including Doan Ket - Hai Ba Trung High School, which was allowed to recruit additional students across the city of Hanoi who did not pass their registered wishes and had an admission score of 25.75 points or higher for 62 quotas.

In addition to Doan Ket High School, Minh Quang High School also recruited students from the entire city with scores of 17 and above. This information was like a “lifesaver” for many students who had failed all their wishes.

Ms. NTH (Cau Giay District) said that after learning that more than 60 schools had lowered their admission scores and that some schools were recruiting indiscriminately, she and her daughter stayed up all night, just waiting for the morning to come so they could bring their application to the school, hoping to find the last "ticket" to get into public grade 10.

Ms. H's daughter has been an excellent student for many years. In every practice test, she scored 40 points or more. "But when she took the official test, she only scored 37 points and failed all three of her wishes. This was a huge shock to my whole family because when she registered her wishes, she had considered a safe option but unexpectedly failed all of them.

I have lost sleep and appetite since my child failed all his wishes, but I do not dare to blame him. We have only quietly searched for a school for him, but so far we have not found a satisfactory "destination", this parent shared.

According to Ms. H., even top private schools require very high scores, but my child does not qualify. "My husband and I feel sorry for our child because his academic performance is not too bad," said Ms. N.

When she learned that Doan Ket High School was recruiting students from the entire city, Ms. N. and her son went to the school early in the morning. Even though she knew that the school was recruiting students online, she still came because she was afraid that if there was some "mistake" she would miss the last chance for her child to get into a good school.

“I know that I can submit my child’s supplementary application online, but I still want to go to school and ask the teachers for guidance to feel secure. I’m just worried that if there’s a small mistake, my child will miss the last chance,” said Ms. N.

In the same situation, Mr. H. (Long Bien District) said that his son also had good academic performance. He registered two options in Long Bien District with the hope of studying near home, making commuting less difficult. However, with 30 points, Mr. H.'s son failed all of his options.

“When my wishes were rejected, I looked for a private school for my child with the hope that he would finish high school and enter the university of his dreams. However, when I learned that Doan Ket High School was recruiting students from the entire city, I brought my documents to the school. If the school allows direct registration of wishes, that would be great. If not, I would like to hear more advice on how to register properly,” said Mr. H.

Notes when submitting additional admission application

On the afternoon of July 13, from 1:30 p.m., public high schools in Hanoi received applications from students who had passed the supplementary admission (after the standard was lowered). Tens of thousands of students were determined to be eligible for the supplementary admission.

According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, students admitted after the lowered standards can enroll or not enroll (if the student has previously been admitted to their second or third choice at another school). Students who do not confirm their admission in the first round and wait for the lowered standards results will still confirm their admission normally if they are admitted.

Before enrolling after the standard is lowered, students must complete the procedure to cancel the confirmation of enrollment at another school (if any). This is a very important regulation, students need to remember to ensure that their enrollment request after the standard is lowered is carried out correctly.

When the admission score is lowered, public schools are allowed to accept students with second and third wishes who are eligible to be admitted. However, students need to remember the admission principles. Specifically, students who are admitted to the second wish must have an admission score at least 1 point higher than the school's admission score; students who are admitted to the third wish must have an admission score at least 2 points higher than the school's admission score.

Students who are admitted to their first choice will not be considered for their second and third choices. Students who are not admitted to their first choice will be considered for their second choice; students who are not admitted to their first and second choices will be considered for their third choice.

In order to help students enroll according to the additional admission standards for grade 10 in the 2024-2025 school year, on the afternoon of July 13, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced the hotline support numbers.

In case of any issues that need to be answered or supported regarding the admission of students admitted to public high schools for the 2024-2025 school year, parents can contact the Hanoi Department of Education and Training at 0888.996.977.

For the two high schools that are allowed to enroll students outside their designated areas, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has a dedicated support phone number. Specifically, parents of students who need support in registering for admission to Doan Ket - Hai Ba Trung High School (Hai Ba Trung District) can contact the phone number 0988091493.
