On December 7, Tam Nong District People's Committee coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize a scientific workshop with the theme: "Phet Hien Quan Festival - Awareness, value and solutions for management and organization".
Overview of the workshop.
The workshop was attended by experts and scientists in the field of culture; leaders of a number of provincial departments, branches and units; representatives of a number of central and local press agencies and a large number of people from Hien Quan commune.
Phet Festival (Hien Quan Commune, Tam Nong District) is held on the 12th and 13th of January (lunar calendar) every year as one of the cultural activities to commemorate Princess Thieu Hoa, a female general under the Trung Sisters' reign who had the merit of repelling the Northern invaders in the 40s of the first century. The festival consists of four parts: palanquin procession, ceremony, marching troops, and fighting Phet, taking place at both Hien Quan Communal House (where Lord Ly Moc Trang was worshiped during the Dinh Dynasty) and Hien Quan Temple (where Thieu Hoa was worshiped during the Trung Sisters' reign).
This is a unique festival that attracts thousands of people from neighboring regions and tourists from near and far across the country. However, in recent years, the Phet robbery part of the festival has been temporarily suspended due to many objective and subjective factors.
Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Hoai Son - Standing Member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education spoke at the workshop.
At the workshop, delegates, scientists and experts in the field of culture focused on discussing a number of key contents such as: Principles of organizing the Phet festival; civilized behavior with traditional folk cultural festivals; preserving and promoting the Phet festival; information and propaganda work on folk cultural festivals on mass media; research and propose plans to build facilities and infrastructure to meet the needs of organizing festivals and enjoying culture of the people; experience in organizing and participating in the Phet festival....
Through the workshop, the position and role of Phet Hien Quan festival in the folk cultural festival activities of Tam Nong district in particular and Phu Tho province in general are clearly identified; appropriate groups of solutions are proposed to create community consensus to carry out the festival in accordance with folk traditions, the civilization of the times as well as the State's regulations to preserve and promote heritage values.
