Mr. Li Peng delivered the opening speech at the Summit within the framework of MWC 2024 event.

At the “5G Beyond Growth” summit hosted by Huawei during MWC 2024, Li Peng, Senior Vice President and President of Huawei ICT Business and Services Group, shared how carriers can achieve business success with 5G, as well as how 5.5G will continue to unlock potential and create new growth opportunities.

By the end of 2023, more than 300 commercial 5G networks had been deployed around the world. 5G is growing at a rate 7 times faster than 4G in the same period. In 2023, tests conducted by a reputable organization in key cities in Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands showed that carriers using Huawei solutions ranked first in network experience. Huawei has also collaborated with many leading global carriers and industry partners to explore new solutions to meet higher requirements for 5.5G applications and scenarios.

Sharing at the “5G Beyond Growth – Breakthrough Growth with 5G” Summit, Mr. Li Peng said: “5G is on the right track to achieve business success. After 5 years since its commercialization in 2019, there have been more than 1.5 billion users using 5G networks, while it took 9 years for 4G to make this a reality. Currently, 20% of mobile subscribers in the world are using 5G, generating 30% of total mobile traffic and contributing to 40% of mobile service revenue. In addition, 5.5G will continue to be commercialized in 2024; and when 5.5G, AI and Cloud come together, operators can explore the potential of new applications.”

Information from this conference shows that mobile users are now ready to buy upgraded versions of mobile plans to improve their user experience if the network is of high quality. Traffic is expected to increase significantly, allowing operators to maximize value. This has led to more and more operators setting strategic goals in building high-quality 5G networks.

Several operators in the Middle East have deployed Massive MIMO networks, delivering optimal experiences and driving successful 5G FWA deployments. To date, 5G FWA has connected nearly 3 million households, becoming a strong revenue driver for operators.

More than 20% of global 5G carriers have adopted a tiered pricing model. A carrier in Thailand recently launched a 5G Boost Mode add-on, allowing subscribers to choose different speed levels to best meet individual needs, while helping carriers increase their ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) by around 23%. Another carrier in China has also popularized a guaranteed uplink plan, which provides a smooth experience and high resolution for livestreamers, and has helped carriers increase ARPU by over 70%.
