A new breeze from the blue sea
After the merger, Lam Dong has a coastline of 192 km, with about 760 km2 of coastal land. The locality is also considered one of the three key fishing grounds of the country for seafood exploitation. This is a huge potential that Lam Dong did not have before.
One of the advantages of the marine economy that Lam Dong possesses is the maritime economy. Currently, maritime transport and local port services have been and will be invested. Initially, there have been certain effects, through the exploitation of Phu Quy port, Phan Thiet port with a fleet of passenger ships from the mainland to Phu Quy island and vice versa. Meanwhile, Vinh Tan port has initially created conditions for the transportation of ash and other raw materials for Vinh Tan Thermal Power Plant.
Along with the maritime economy, Lam Dong has great potential for seafood exploitation and aquaculture. According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong, the whole province has an aquaculture area of about 6,964 hectares. On average, each year, the locality exploits about 180,000 tons of seafood of all kinds. Aquaculture output is estimated at nearly 15,000 tons. By the end of August 2025, the output of this sector reached 10,123 tons, an increase of 1.3% over the same period.
By 2030, Lam Dong aims to have 80% of its marine areas protected for biodiversity. The seaport system, logistics and coastal afforestation will be continuously upgraded to respond to climate change.
In addition to developing seafood reserves and varieties, Lam Dong is also developing the mining industry, building large seaports, logistics, renewable energy... Not to mention sea tourism and services are also developing strongly, becoming an attractive destination for domestic and international visitors.
But at the same time, there are dozens of large and small projects in many fields that cannot be implemented, for many reasons. That is, land clearance has not been completed, planning overlaps, related regulations have not been implemented... And the most pressing issue at present is that many projects have not calculated specific land prices, so the next steps have not been promoted. That is the reason why, although the coastal resources of the province are very large, they have not created a breakthrough in development.

Unlocking Resources
With its existing potential and advantages, the marine economy is a field that brings a lot of value to the Lam Dong economy. Assessing the potential and advantages of the marine economy, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Muoi shared: "The land resources of Lam Dong's blue sea coastal area are very large. We are very proud of the potential of the marine economy such as: aquatic and seafood reserves; tourism; seaports, logistics, renewable energy, green energy. If promoted, this will be one of the key areas contributing to Lam Dong's GRDP".
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged that many projects, especially non-budget projects, are currently facing difficulties and problems. Many works and projects are unfinished, suspended or not yet operational. Lam Dong is focusing on removing bottlenecks in site clearance for coastal projects. Any project under the Central authority, any project under the Provincial authority, any project requiring coordination between the Central and the Provincial Government, Lam Dong will be determined to do so.
“We will try our best, as soon as possible, to put the project into operation. This is the only way to solve the problem of land waste and the determination to innovate growth in this coastal area with great potential,” said Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Ho Van Muoi.
According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, the locality is orienting towards sustainable development of the marine economy combined with ecological conservation. The province will synchronously develop many fields of renewable energy (wind power, wave power), green hydrogen production, coastal high-tech industry and sea and island tourism. The province focuses on strongly developing seaport services associated with economic zones and industrial parks to promote processing and export of aquatic products and minerals.

Aiming for 20 - 25% of the province's GRDP
To develop the marine economy into a spearhead economic sector, in addition to focusing on the potential and advantages of the sea, Lam Dong is implementing many synchronous solutions. First, the province focuses on improving and synchronizing infrastructure, especially transport infrastructure.
The province also focuses on developing seaport logistics and multimodal transport. In particular, the province has promoted the upgrading and development of Vinh Tan and Son My ports into modern logistics hubs. Investment in developing dry ports to strengthen connectivity and improve logistics efficiency; high-tech sustainable aquaculture and seafood processing are also focused on.
Lam Dong is focusing on developing the field of sea tourism and high-quality services. The focus of this chain is to develop Mui Ne National Tourist Area into an international-class sea resort center. The province develops Phu Quy special zone into a high-class sea and island tourism destination, combining sea sports in coastal urban centers... It can be said that the sea economy has, is and will contribute greatly to Lam Dong's economy.
By 2030, Lam Dong aims to have a strong marine economy. Purely marine economic sectors contribute about 20-25% of the province's GRDP. The average income per capita of coastal communes and Phu Quy special zone is 1.5-2 times higher than the average income of the whole province.
