This is a method of treating uterine fibroids and uterine ectropion with heat. High frequency wave current with a frequency of 350-500 kHz stimulates the movement of molecules around the electrode and generates heat that will destroy uterine fibroids and uterine ectropion.
Doctors at Cho Ray Hospital are applying high-frequency radio waves to treat uterine fibroids for patients. |
On the afternoon of May 25, Tu Du Hospital organized a scientific workshop on the application of high-frequency wave ablation to treat uterine fibroids and uterine myoma (endometriosis). This is a method of treating uterine fibroids and uterine myoma with heat. High-frequency wave currents with a frequency of 350-500 kHz stimulate the movement of molecules around the electrode and generate heat, which will destroy uterine fibroids and uterine myoma.
According to Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, Deputy Executive Director of Tu Du Hospital, there are currently many methods to treat uterine fibroids from medical and surgical treatments such as: uterine fibroid removal, hysterectomy, to minimally invasive methods: embolization (using a substance injected into the blood vessels to block the blood vessels that feed the uterine fibroids), high intensity focused ultrasound HIFU (using high intensity focused ultrasound waves under MRI positioning to destroy uterine fibroids), or combining many methods to treat...
However, a new method that is being proven safe, effective, convenient and relatively economical is the method of using high frequency waves to treat uterine fibroids and uterine ectropion for patients who want to preserve the uterus and do not agree to surgery. High frequency waves have been applied in the treatment of thyroid, liver, vascular diseases... in Vietnam, but have not been applied to the field of obstetrics and gynecology.
BSCK2 Tran Ngoc Hai discusses high frequency wave ablation technique in the treatment of uterine fibroids and endometriosis |
"The application of high-frequency radio waves to treat uterine fibroids has been recognized by the FDA since 2012, and up to now, there have been many studies on the implementation of this technique on patients with uterine fibroids and have achieved effective results in reducing tumor size and reducing symptoms caused by uterine fibroids...", Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai informed and said that not all uterine fibroids and uterine ectropion can be treated conservatively. Patients will be individually consulted and choose the most appropriate treatment method.
Tu Du Hospital is the first unit to apply high-frequency ablation to treat uterine fibroids under ultrasound guidance since 2021 and has been officially permitted by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health to implement it since January 5, 2022 according to the Decision to officially approve new techniques and new methods in medical examination and treatment at Tu Du Hospital. Since then, the hospital has performed this new technique on patients with uterine fibroids who do not agree to surgery and has had many positive results.
After 12 months of follow-up after ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation of uterine fibroids, most patients had a 50% reduction in fibroid size, while reducing the accompanying symptoms caused by fibroids. This result has opened a new direction, a new option for patients with uterine fibroids but want to preserve the uterus and do not agree to surgery.
Uterine fibroids are benign pathologies of the smooth muscle of the uterus, accounting for 20-40% of women of reproductive age. Uterine adenomyosis is a pathology caused by benign invasion of endometrial glands and stromal tissue into the myometrium. Uterine fibroids and adenomyosis are present in about 75% of premenopausal women, and about 1/3 of them experience symptoms such as menstrual disorders, dysmenorrhea and large tumors that compress other organs such as the bladder or bowel.
