Spread humanitarian activities in the community

Reporter: Could you please tell us about the outstanding results of the Red Cross work in Ninh Binh province last year?

Mr. Bui Trong Ky: With the theme "From the heart of each of us - Joining hands to build a compassionate community", in 2023, all levels of the Red Cross Association from the provincial to the grassroots level competed to carry out the Association's tasks and achieved outstanding results. The work of building the Association's organization was focused on, strengthening the development of members and volunteers... Emergency relief and humanitarian assistance activities were widely deployed, ensuring publicity, transparency, timeliness and effectiveness.

During the year, the Association at all levels mobilized nearly 27 billion VND, supporting over 55,000 vulnerable people in the province. Notable activities include the "Humanitarian Tet" movement, the "Each organization and individual is associated with a humanitarian address" campaign, the "Nutrition for poor and disabled children" program, the "Good people, good deeds - Joining hands to build a compassionate community" movement, "Humanitarian Month"... Through these humanitarian activities, we contribute to raising responsibility, spreading deep humanity and humanity, connecting love between people in society.

Voluntary blood donation (VBD) has achieved many results. The whole province has had over 15,000 people register to donate blood, receiving 12,300 units of blood, reaching 137% of the plan. Especially before, during and after Tet, in the summer, the demand for blood increases; especially this year, blood types O and A are often in short supply, so the Provincial Red Cross Association has implemented a plan to carry out the campaign "Pink Spring Festival", "Red Sunday", "Pink Summer Blood Drops"... The program has attracted a large number of volunteers to participate in VBD.

The Association at all levels continued to maintain the activities of 19 "Living Blood Bank" Clubs, established 3 new Clubs, bringing the total number of living blood bank Clubs in the province to 22 Clubs, with over 2,162 members. The Association organized a program to honor "Silent role models for the sick", and awarded nearly 200 outstanding volunteers on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of International Blood Donor Day, June 14.

The work of mobilizing people to register and donate organs and tissues is increasingly going into depth. Ninh Binh maintains its position as the leading locality nationwide in the organ and tissue donation movement.

Reporter: To achieve these results, what methods did the Red Cross Associations at all levels take, sir?

Mr. Bui Trong Ky: To achieve the above results, first of all, it is the attention, leadership and direction of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, Provincial People's Committee and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society; the close coordination between the Red Cross Society and the Fatherland Front , agencies, departments, branches, unions, religious organizations from the province to the grassroots; the enthusiastic and responsible staff of the Society for the work of the Society, with the awareness of studying to improve professional qualifications, promptly updating and supplementing knowledge, learning from experience to perform tasks more and more effectively.

With the determination to innovate and gradually successfully implement the sustainable development goals in the Development Strategy of the Vietnam Red Cross Society to 2030, vision 2045; right from the beginning of the year, the Red Cross Society of Ninh Binh province has built plans, contents and work programs closely following the Association's operational themes, launched the signing of emulation covenants between units; promoted the role and responsibility of the Association in effectively implementing the 7 activities stipulated in the Law on Red Cross Activities, especially focusing on emergency relief and humanitarian assistance, participating in disaster prevention and response; community-based health care for people, voluntary blood donation, registration and donation of tissues and organs. Thereby, the Associations at all levels from the province to the grassroots have closely followed the core tasks, flexibly built plans, organized implementation and achieved the above encouraging results. In particular, we pay great attention to communicating the Association's activities, thereby actively spreading humanitarian activities in the community.

Reporter: What is the Association's orientation to contribute to improving the Association's operational efficiency in the coming time when the socio -economic situation is still difficult, affecting the mobilization of social resources?

Mr. Bui Trong Ky: At present, the socio-economic context has certain difficulties, more or less affecting the resource mobilization work of the Association. However, we identify humanitarian work as a regular work and coming from the heart of each person; therefore, to effectively carry out the Red Cross movement and the Association's work, each cadre, member, and volunteer must strive, be enthusiastic, dedicated, practice mass mobilization skills and must identify each vulnerable person in the community as their relative, from which the Association's activities will be effective.

The Provincial Red Cross Society continues to lead and direct all levels of the Society to organize and implement Directive No. 18/CT-TTg dated July 9, 2018 of the Prime Minister and Document No. 1150-CV/TU dated January 4, 2023 of the Ninh Binh Provincial Party Committee on improving the effectiveness of humanitarian work and Red Cross activities in the new situation. In particular, it is necessary to proactively and promptly review the subjects in need of emergency assistance; provide emergency relief when natural disasters and catastrophes occur... so that the community can join in giving love to the subjects; strengthen sustainable humanitarian assistance activities, clearly demonstrating the core role of the Red Cross Society.

In the immediate future, the entire Association will continue to promote two key programs "Safety for poor and disadvantaged fishermen" and "Nutrition for poor and disabled children"... to promote digital transformation in humanitarian activities. The Association will advise the Provincial People's Committee to issue a Decision approving the propaganda and mobilization plan for organizing the HMTN in Ninh Binh province in 2024; develop a plan and time to organize the HMTN during the year to coordinate with the receiving hospitals.

Direct, urge and guide units to do a good job of propaganda, mobilization, organization of blood donation, supervise the organization of blood collection, ensure safety and compliance with regulations. Continue to propagate and mobilize people to register and donate tissues and organs. At the same time, proactively coordinate with media agencies to promptly reflect the activities of the Association and the Red Cross movement, contributing to spreading kindness.

Coordinate with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and departments, branches and organizations at all levels to continue advising Party committees and authorities on humanitarian work. Strengthen and develop relationships with organizations, businesses and philanthropists in humanitarian activities, and be ready to participate in supporting people in neighboring provinces when they are severely affected by natural disasters and catastrophes.

Reporter: On the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, what are your thoughts on being involved in this work?

Mr. Bui Trong Ky: We also have many confidences and shares, but we determine that mobilizing, connecting and bringing joy to everyone is the joy of each cadre and member of the Red Cross. Hopefully, from the meaningful activities of the Association, Party committees and authorities need to pay more attention to policies for cadres and members of the Red Cross. It is necessary to identify more accurately, accurately and meaningfully the humanitarian activities in the locality as a measure of civilization, ensuring social security and ensuring social order and safety of that locality.

We hope that the Association will grow stronger and stronger, carry out many practical activities, demonstrate its core, bridging and coordinating role in humanitarian activities, and effectively participate in implementing the social security policies of the Party and State; so that "no one is left behind" for each citizen.
