Song Son - Ba Doi Festival 2024

On the morning of April 4 (February 26 of the lunar calendar), at Song Son Temple in Bac Son Ward, the People's Committee of Bim Son Town solemnly held the Song Son - Ba Doi Festival 2024.

Song Son - Ba Doi Festival has existed for a long time, reflecting the cultural and spiritual needs of the people in Bim Son town. At the same time, it shows the national cultural identity, paying tribute to Holy Mother Lieu Hanh - one of the four immortal saints of the Vietnamese people.

The festival is also an occasion for all classes of people to commemorate the great contributions of the cloth-clad hero Quang Trung - Nguyen Hue, who 235 years ago stopped at Ba Doi Pass to join Ngo Thi Nham and Ngo Van So in recruiting soldiers, gathering military provisions, training patriots, and discussing strategies before marching to liberate Thang Long. That feat was engraved in the history of fighting foreign invaders and reclaiming the country of our people.

Song Son Temple, which is associated with the Song Son Festival, formerly known as Sung Tran Temple, was built under the reign of King Le Hien Tong (1740-1786) in Co Dam village, Phu Duong, Ha Trung district (now Bac Son ward, Bim Son town). Song Son Temple has a sacred space, charming scenery, harmonious architecture and decoration imbued with traditional Vietnamese culture and is famous for the folk song "Song Temple is the most sacred in Thanh land". This place worships Mother Lieu Hanh, one of the most important deities of Vietnamese Mother Religion. In 1993, Song Son - Ba Doi Temple was recognized as a national historical relic by the Ministry of Culture and Information. On January 14, 2019, Song Son Temple was recognized as a provincial tourist destination by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Here, Holy Mother Lieu Hanh used her magic to help pedestrians cross Ba Doi Pass; taught the local people how to dig wells to get water, plant mulberry trees, raise silkworms, weave cloth; “save the suffering, eliminate disasters”, “encourage good, eliminate evil”, love all living beings infinitely, teach people to “cultivate themselves and cultivate their character” according to the spirit of Buddhism.
