'Red Rain' – a cinematic epic from Quang Tri Citadel

On the occasion of National Day September 2, the People's Army Cinema released the film "Red Rain" directed by Meritorious Artist, Lieutenant Colonel Dang Thai Huyen. The film recreates the fierce 81-day battle at Quang Tri Citadel in 1972, a place known as the "bloody coordinates" of the nation.

Filmed over 81 days and nights in Quang Tri , "Red Rain" brings to the audience footage drenched in sweat and tears. From the harsh setting, the bombs raining down on the village, to the elaborate battlefield reconstruction, each frame contains the dedication of the entire film crew.

In that tragic flow, appeared Squad 1 of K3 Tam Son, gathering young soldiers from all over the country. They were Cuong, a music conservatory student who "put down his pen" to go to war, leaving behind his mother who was also the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs , later standing in the middle of the negotiating table and loudly reading the terms of the Paris Agreement. There was Tu, a student who had not yet graduated from high school from the South who wrote a letter in blood asking to join the army. There was Ta, a squad leader from Thanh Hoa who was rustic but kind; there were Hai, Sen, Binh,... each character was a piece of the "North - Central - South together in battle" generation, ready to sacrifice their youth for national independence.

"Red Rain" does not stop at depicting the fierceness, but also opens up the quiet moments of everyday life: camaraderie, love blossoming on the battlefield, and even the contemplative moments of an officer on the other side of the battle line wondering what he is fighting for. It is this multidimensionality that makes the film not dry, but rich in humanity.

Director Dang Thai Huyen conveyed the symbolic power through many details: Two mothers from the North and the South sent their children off to war and then saw them off on the day of peace ; the scene of two soldiers facing each other and falling down, their hands still holding the S-shaped checkered scarf,...

In addition, the visual part by Meritorious Artist Ly Thai Dung brings strong visual effects, while the music leads the emotional flow from gentle to tragic, and then closes with a symphony called Red Rain - a heroic song recorded from the blood and fire of the battlefield.

Not only having great support from military units in terms of weapons, equipment and technology, "Red Rain" also impressed with its grand scenes and meticulous martial arts performances. After more than two hours of screening, many audiences still lingered in the theater, their eyes red, silently thinking about the sacrifices of their predecessors.

"Red Rain" is not only a cinematic work, but also an immortal epic written with photos, films and tears, a sincere tribute to those who fell for peace today./.
