Due to the impact of heavy rains from the evening of May 2 to May 4, 2024, accompanied by tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind, many watermelon areas in the harvest stage in Trieu Do commune, Trieu Phong district were flooded and severely damaged, causing great economic damage.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Phan, Vice Chairman of Trieu Do Commune People's Committee, said that this year the commune planted about 10 hectares of watermelon, but due to the impact of the recent rain, more than 5 hectares were completely damaged, causing damage of about 700 million VND.

After being flooded, the weather is now sunny, so many areas of plants are wilted, fruits are broken, rotten, and many fruits that are not yet ready for harvest must be thrown away. The People's Committee of the commune directed people to quickly harvest good, undamaged melons to limit damage, and at the same time continue to prepare the land for the next crop.
It is known that watermelon is one of the main crops on the alluvial land along the Thach Han river bank of Trieu Do commune, bringing a good income to the people every year.
