The plane carrying the Russian coaching staff and players is expected to land at Noi Bai Airport ( Hanoi ) in the early afternoon of September 4. This time slot is quite late compared to other pre-match press conferences, but coach Valery Karpin said he wanted to let the players experience the atmosphere and weather of Vietnam and practice on the field before holding the press conference. This also shows respect for the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the Vietnamese press because he wants to provide the most authentic information and the most realistic sharing after getting used to the environment in Vietnam.

On September 3, in an interview with the Russian press, coach Valery Karpin also gave his initial comments on the Vietnamese and Thai teams. He said he had carefully studied both Southeast Asian teams and certainly did not underestimate either team. In response to opinions that playing friendly matches with two teams that are not " world football powers" would not help the Russian team, Mr. Karpin said this is an important time for the players to regain focus, remember the tactics from the coaching staff and "meeting any team is beneficial for the Russian team".

The Russian team's schedule in Vietnam is quite tight as they only have 1 day in Hanoi before the first match against the Vietnamese team at 8pm on September 5. They only have 1 practice session to get used to the pitch in the evening and at the same time have to get used to the time difference, weather, and humidity in a climate very different from Moscow.

The Russian team has not participated in many major tournaments in the past two years.

"I think we won't have many problems. The match schedule is quite reasonable, the players will adapt. Although the weather will be a bit uncomfortable, we will try to get used to it," said coach Karpin.

Previously, veteran midfielder of the Vietnam team, Do Hung Dung, also commented that the Russian players are all world-class and have a lot of experience in top-level competition, so the short time to get used to the different weather conditions will not be difficult for them. Hung Dung and the Vietnamese players are also looking forward to playing with a team as classy as Russia.
