Kieu Truc Phuong said she started singing at the age of 16, playing many different roles in troupes such as Huong Mua Thu and Thanh Nga. Among them, the role of Cua in Ngao so oc hen is loved by many audiences. She confided: “To be honest, I have sung so many roles that I can’t remember them all. But luckily, the role of Cua is remembered by the next generation. To be honest, if it weren’t for that play, people probably wouldn’t know me.”
Looking back on his time singing, the 76-year-old singer shared: “In the past, singing was so poor but it was fun. Everyone shared a sleeping place, hung up a mosquito net, then lied down and talked, whoever went to sleep first slept. There were days when we sang for just one night and had to clean up, not having time to dry the clothes.”
During the 2000s, artist Kieu Truc Phuong performed less and less, focusing on doing makeup at a photo studio. After that, she gradually disappeared from the reformed theater stages until now. "My group thought that no matter what role I sang, the audience loved me. When I was working at the photo studio, Kim Tu Long invited me to sing Em oi dung khoc nua , but I refused. Because I saw that singing now doesn't pay much, and I don't have money to buy clothes, so I stopped doing makeup to make a living. At that time, I was very happy. I quit the job because of that, because I was too greedy for money. Thanks to that, I was able to raise my children," she humorously recounted.
