Mountain people in Nghe An stay up all night to escape floods

Heavy rains, water from rivers and streams poured in, people in many places in mountainous communes of Nghe An had to stay up all night to escape the flood.

Throughout last night, people in many areas along the Nam Non, Nam Mo, and Lam rivers had to rush to escape the flood.

Mr. Lo Dinh Thu, Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Xen Commune ( Nghe An ) said that from the afternoon of July 22 to this morning (July 23), all leaders and forces stayed up all night to support people fleeing the flood.

During the night, the Muong Xen commune forces successfully rescued a family of 5 in block 5 (Muong Xen commune) who were trapped in the floodwaters. Because the floodwaters came too quickly, the house was located next to the river, so the family could not leave the house in time to move to the higher ground. In that situation, the rescue force used ropes, had people swim to the location where the 5 people were trapped, then brought them out of the danger zone one by one.

This morning, the search force of Nam Can commune is also looking for Mrs. Ly Y Dinh (70 years old, residing in Huoi Poc village, Nam Can commune). Mrs. Dinh was swept away by flood at Huoi Yen stream on the afternoon of July 22.

Mr. Lo Truong Bach in Tuong Duong commune shared that he had never seen the water rise so quickly. His house is two stories but the water was almost up to the second floor. Fortunately, during the night, a rescue boat arrived and took his family to safety. This morning the rain has stopped, but the water is still deep.
