Ca Mau woman starts business with traditional sticky rice

Ms. Ho Thi My Thuoc's sticky rice product was in the top 10 of outstanding projects at the "Ca Mau Startup 2023" competition. This is the result of continuous efforts, and also shows the attention and support of authorities at all levels, especially the Ca Mau Provincial Women's Union, for the startup products of its members and women in the area.

When mentioning Tan Quang sticky rice in Ca Mau province, almost everyone knows the Hai Thinh sticky rice brand. The brand is associated with the name of Mrs. Pham Thi Thinh, residing in Tan Quang A hamlet, Cai Doi Vam commune, Ca Mau province, a woman who has been making sticky rice for more than 60 years.

Mrs. Thinh has been making sticky rice since she was a girl, taught by her grandmother and until now, Mrs. Thinh continues to pass on the profession to her children. Among them, her third daughter, Ms. Ho Thi My Thuoc, not only continues her mother's profession but also boldly starts a business and elevates the traditional sticky rice product.

At the well-invested production facility, every day, Ms. Thuoc and her family members are busy with many stages to make products such as traditional sticky rice, shredded pork sticky rice, brown rice sticky rice and various cakes, candies and jams. According to Ms. Thuoc, the raw materials for making sticky rice such as sticky rice, pandan leaves, and purple leaves are all available locally; many of which are grown by her in her own garden. The products are carefully packaged, ensuring quality and delicious flavor when brought to market. Currently, Hai Thinh sticky rice products have also achieved 3-star OCOP certification.
