When it comes to journalism, people often think of the image of reporters busy on all roads, from remote border areas, to foggy islands, to the center of hot news.

There were journalists who crossed raging floods to record every real footage. There were people who slept on the ground to catch the last train to Truong Sa. There were people who held cameras and ran through the chaotic crowd to record the life and death moments of history. And there were also people who passed away forever when they were still young, leaving behind unfinished news stories and unfinished manuscripts...

Journalism, in itself, is a declaration of courage and bravery. Standing in the midst of the storm of events, information, of things that are unclear and unidentified, journalists are the ones who have to make a choice: to commit to tell the truth, or to remain silent to avoid danger? Most of them choose to commit, to face it. Because for them, the pen is not only a tool for practicing but also a conscience, a courage and a sacred oath to the people and to life. A timely article can awaken a community. An accurate news report can help people avoid confusion in the midst of a storm of fake news. A series of reports reflecting life can help local leaders realize existing problems that they themselves have not seen. A social investigation lasting many months can reveal inadequacies and negativity, thereby creating momentum for positive change in society.

In recent years, as information technology has developed rapidly and social networks have become popular channels for accessing information, journalism has faced a new challenge: Maintaining accuracy, verification, and professional ethics amid the whirlwind of "fast news, sensational news, and clickbait news".

To maintain public trust, journalists must be braver and more alert. They must know how to put aside the attraction of "hot" things, to choose what is "right" and what is "real". They must stand outside the influence of vulgar tastes to serve the standards and progress of society.

Reporters are not only storytellers but also people who create a picture of life with words, images, emotions and even with sweat and tears. There are journalists who have quietly retired into poverty, but their legacy remains forever in the hearts of readers and in the memory of society.

There are also young people who are new to the profession, although the salary is not high, the benefits are not enough, but they are still enthusiastic about staying close to the scene, not afraid of hardship, not afraid of distance. Because for them, journalism is love, is an ideal, is an irreplaceable mission.

On June 21, Vietnam Press Day, we would like to express our most sincere gratitude to journalists. They are the soldiers on the information front. Without guns, without glory, but with their pens and hearts, they preserve the truth, build trust and light up the dark areas of life.

They are the fragrant flowers that bloom silently in everyday life, not needing anyone to praise them but always making people bow their heads in respect. Thank you to the reporters who have spent their youth wading through fields, crossing forests, and going to remote islands. Thank you to the editors who quietly sit in the middle of the night filtering each word. Thank you to the photographers, technicians, and television backstage staff who have contributed to creating lively and humane programs. Thank you to the dedicated journalists who are day and night building an honest, humane journalism that serves the people.

In the journey of national development today, the press not only reports and reflects, but also accompanies, leads and inspires the nation's aspirations to rise. Positive stories, examples of good people, good deeds, innovative models, meaningful social activities transmitted through the media, are contributing every day to creating a more loving, connected and kind society. We need a strong press to fight negativity. We need conscientious people to fight against deviation. We need decent newspapers to educate the young generation to love what is right and hate what is wrong. We need beautiful words to cherish the beauty of life. And more importantly, we need journalists who know how to keep themselves clean, know how to choose the right path, to forever be worthy of the two words "journalist".

Once again, I would like to express my gratitude to journalists, ordinary yet extraordinary people. I wish all journalists, reporters, and editors good health and to keep the flame of their profession bright and humane. I hope you will always be "honest companions of the people", as President Ho Chi Minh taught.
