Deciding to stay in a remote mountainous district of Quang Tri , teacher Tran Thi Chau not only does her teaching job well but also brings her beautiful heart to love and share with ethnic minority students.
Sewing free clothes for students of Pa Ko - Van Kieu
In late November, the mountainous district of Huong Hoa (Quang Tri) had continuous rain and cold weather, making the road leading to the Ky Tang campus of A Xing Kindergarten in Lia commune more difficult to travel than ever.
But teacher Tran Thi Chau (49 years old, living in A Xing commune) still has to cross this slippery muddy road every day to bring "letters" and new clothes to give to the ethnic minority children of Pa Ko - Van Kieu.
And this has been going on for decades...
Ms. Tran Thi Chau has spent decades sewing clothes to give to poor students.
Nearing retirement age, Ms. Chau still accepts new tasks and contributes to making Ky Tang school become lovely and beautiful.
"I came here in 1999, right in the winter, the weather was as cold as this. However, at that time, the ethnic minorities had no clothes to wear. With old, torn shirts, the mothers tied a piece of cloth, Pa Ko - Van Kieu clothes, across their bodies and carried their children to the fields. It looked very pitiful," Ms. Chau recalled.
Students at Ky Tang school wear traditional costumes given by their homeroom teacher.
Just a stranger who had just started a business in a strange land, facing many difficulties, Ms. Chau still went to ask for old pieces of fabric to make clothes for people, especially students. That work continues until now.
"Maybe because my family was poor since I was young, and we also wore old, torn clothes like the people here, so I really like sewing clothes. In the house, there is a separate room for me to freely create. From everyday clothes, uniforms to traditional costumes of ethnic minorities, I can make them all," Ms. Chau shared.
Ms. Chau has a special love for ethnic minority children.
Using her own money to buy materials and her own efforts to sew free clothes, what makes Ms. Chau happiest is that when she puts on new clothes for the students, she often receives unanimous thanks from the whole class. "As long as I have the strength, I will continue to do this job," she shared.
Kind-hearted teacher receives title of Excellent Teacher
In 2023, teacher Tran Thi Chau took on a new job at Ky Tang school. At that time, the school was very messy, many facilities were not guaranteed to serve teaching. With her experience, she gradually changed many things, from teaching to activities for students.
Ky Tang school has changed a lot since Ms. Chau took over the job.
"I have just redone the school yard so that the students have a cleaner and safer place to live. I contributed all the expenses and coordinated with the union members in the commune to help with the construction of the yard foundation," Ms. Chau shared.
Ky Tang school is where more than 20 ethnic minority students study. Before that, Ms. Chau also performed her teaching duties very well at many other disadvantaged schools belonging to A Xing Kindergarten and received the title of grassroots emulation fighter many times, contributing initiatives to develop the local educational environment.
Teacher Tran Thi Chau was honored to receive the title of Excellent Teacher.
On the occasion of November 20, teacher Tran Thi Chau was honored to be one of 16 teachers to receive the title of Excellent Teacher awarded by the President . Ms. Chau is the only preschool teacher in Quang Tri province to receive this title.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Nga, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Huong Hoa District, highly appreciated the efforts and achievements that teacher Tran Thi Chau contributed to the school in a remote and difficult area of the locality.
"Ms. Chau is an exemplary teacher in the locality, completing her tasks very well every year. She also does a great job in social work, helping the people of Lia commune. The title of Excellent Teacher she has just received is a great achievement that Ms. Chau has worked hard and dedicated for many years," said Ms. Nga.
