The 10th Vietnam - US Pediatric Conference was held by Bach Mai Hospital for 2 days, April 10 - 11, in Hanoi . Leading domestic and international pediatric experts reported and updated the treatment of diseases in young children such as: respiratory (asthma, pneumonia); allergies; endocrine and cardiovascular; antibiotic resistance and medical incident management, resuscitation - blood filtration.
Doctors note symptoms related to the risk of asthma in young children
According to Dr. Nguyen Thanh Nam, Director of the Pediatric Center, Bach Mai Hospital, it is very difficult to assess asthma in children under 5 years old, especially under 2 years old. Therefore, there are cases of asthma in young children that have not been diagnosed correctly and promptly. It is necessary to distinguish asthma from pneumonia, bronchiolitis, tracheomalacia... in young children.
According to Dr. Nam, asthma should be considered when children have symptoms such as: cough, recurrent wheezing, often occurring at night, near dawn, when the weather changes, when exposed to allergens. When listening to the lungs, children may have wheezing, snoring, or wheezing. Warning symptoms may include: sneezing, stuffy nose, runny nose.
At the same time, to diagnose asthma, it is necessary to do paraclinical assessments (blood count, blood gas, chest X-ray).
Dr. Nam noted that in cases of suspected asthma, evidence of airway obstruction and wheezing must be confirmed by a doctor, preferably by stethoscope (wheezing, snoring). The child must respond to asthma treatment and have no evidence suggesting another diagnosis.
To diagnose asthma in children, doctors need to carefully study the medical history and perform examinations combined with response to trial treatment when necessary. Accordingly, for children with asthma, when treated with low doses of specialized drugs, there will be improvement in 2-3 months when using the drug and worsen when stopping the specialized drug.
Asthma prevention in children requires avoiding triggers as directed by a doctor; flu vaccination; strengthening immunity and monitoring and treatment as directed.
According to the Pediatric Center, Bach Mai Hospital, the North is in the transitional season, the center and pediatric units have increased the number of hospitalized children due to common diseases such as respiratory and digestive diseases.
Doctors at the Pediatric Center, Bach Mai Hospital, examine and evaluate the health of pediatric patients.
For respiratory diseases, common pathogens include: influenza virus, RSV virus cases, and mycoplasma pneumonia. There are also times when hand, foot, and mouth disease cases or children with viral fever appear.
According to Dr. Nguyen Thanh Nam, Director of the Pediatric Center, Bach Mai Hospital, the above mentioned common pathogens can still cause serious illness in young children. The hospitalized children have severe pneumonia, high fever that cannot be reduced at home and some other factors that can affect the child's health.
In severe cases of pneumonia, the disease progression and treatment for children is still the same, but the most important thing is to try to find the right cause; monitor closely because children have rapid and sudden progression.
"The number of children hospitalized is increasing during the changing seasons. Our treatment goal at this time is to have the children in good health and discharged as soon as possible, to limit overloading the children," Dr. Nam shared.
