Many Vietnamese arrested at fraudulent casinos abroad

On the afternoon of March 14, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , answering reporters' questions about citizen protection in cases where many Vietnamese citizens in Cambodia and Thailand were arrested by local authorities for participating in working in fraudulent gambling establishments, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said:

Regarding the case of a number of Vietnamese citizens being arrested by Cambodian authorities, according to information from the Vietnamese Consulate General in Sihanoukville, on March 9, more than 100 Vietnamese citizens working illegally at an online gambling scam facility were arrested and deported by Cambodian authorities.

Implementing the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , on March 11, the Vietnamese Consulate General in Sihanoukville coordinated with Cambodian and domestic authorities to conduct consular procedures and receive these citizens through the Prek Chak - Ha Tien International Border Gate.

Regarding the case of 18 Vietnamese citizens being arrested by Thailand, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that immediately after receiving the information, the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand contacted local authorities to find out information and verify the identities of these people.

According to information from the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand, these 18 citizens were arrested for participating in organizing games/frauds that directly or indirectly advertise/invite others to gamble through electronic means without permission from the authorities.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand will continue to closely monitor the case and request local authorities to ensure the legitimate rights of Vietnamese citizens.

Recently, many similar incidents have occurred. Therefore, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs once again recommends that Vietnamese citizens should be alert to invitations to work abroad in the style of "light work, high salary" or without requirements for degrees, qualifications, without signed contracts, not through businesses or labor sending organizations. Citizens need to carefully learn about the job content, unit, work location and relatives of the referrer, insurance regime, and benefits to make the right decision before going to work abroad.
