A group of friends with newly built bookcases and backpacks, notebooks, and school supplies sent to flood-affected schools.

Instead of coming to the Humanity Bookcase in early September to kick off volunteer activities for the new school year, the group of students from Ho Chi Minh City decided to arrive earlier on August 3 to prepare everything in time for the shipment to Nghe An province.
The circulation after storm No. 3 (Wipha) caused prolonged heavy rains in many mountainous districts in the West of Nghe An, causing a series of schools to be devastated and facilities to be severely damaged. Responding to the urgent call to help students to be able to return to school on time, a group of volunteers discussed and quickly took action.
Hope Nghe An students return to school on time
With the support of their parents, the students contributed a total of 5 bookcases, more than 30 backpacks, and many notebooks and school supplies to the affected school. Nguyen Hao Nhien, a student at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted in Ho Chi Minh City, learned early about the storm and flood in Nghe An province thanks to regularly following the news. Facilities, desks, chairs, books, in general, were all severely damaged. Through the Charity Bookcase, his group wants to contribute a part of their efforts to help students in the storm-affected areas have more opportunities to get closer to knowledge, even though there are many natural disasters and difficulties ahead.

Unlike previous times when the group contributed to classifying and binding books to send to students across the country, this time each member of the group contributed their own money to deliver the books to their destinations on time before the opening day of school. Then together they packaged, labeled, and placed a ray of hope in each book. "We don't think we can do anything great, but we believe that each small book that reaches the right place, the right person, will have much greater value," Hao Nhien shared.
Nguyen Thanh Lam, a student at Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School in Ho Chi Minh City, said that as a student, he understands the feeling of a new school year approaching, when his hands can touch books with the scent of new paper. He thinks his peers there are also looking forward to the same thing, but their circumstances are too difficult. Therefore, he decided to use the prize money from the April Olympic competition in Ho Chi Minh City to donate a bookcase to a school in need through the Humanity Bookcase.
According to Dinh Phuc Hung, a student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education's Practice High School, he was born and raised in Ho Chi Minh City, where there are no floods or big storms that sweep away schools. Perhaps that is why he feels even more fortunate and grateful. When he heard that students in Nghe An were affected by storm No. 3, with flooded schools and damaged books, he felt very sorry. Thinking about the fact that they were about to go back to school but had to face natural disasters, he decided for the first time to donate a bookcase and pack books and school supplies to send to the storm-affected area. Although what he contributed was only a small part, he believes that if everyone shares a little, the first day of school will still come, even if it is late, but still complete and warm.

Nguyen Minh Huy, a student at the Gifted High School, Ho Chi Minh City National University, shared his heartbreaking feelings when reading the news that many schools in Nghe An were deeply flooded, with desks, chairs, books and even learning equipment severely damaged. He thought of his friends having to study in damp, deprived classrooms, or worse, not being able to return to school because of the storm. So he and his friends came up with the idea of contributing some books from the Humanity Bookcase to give away, hoping that their friends and teachers would be able to prepare for the new school year.
After seeing his friends in the group decide to donate a bookshelf, Nguyen Duc Minh Quan, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City, suddenly thought that in addition to books, they must also be in great need of school supplies such as pens, rulers, notebooks, etc. to be ready to return to school after the storm. So he started to research and choose. For 2-3 days, he and his mother carefully looked at online stores, prioritizing places with many purchases, good reviews, and reasonable prices so that he could buy the largest quantity within his budget. He also chose stores in Ho Chi Minh City so that the goods would be delivered quickly and on time. "Luckily, the money from the piggy bank can also buy quite a lot of school supplies," he said.
Appeal from flood affected areas
Mr. Tran Thanh Hoai, Deputy Director of the Social Enterprise Nhan Ai Bookcase, commented that it was great that students from 4 schools, including the Gifted High School, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted in Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School in Ho Chi Minh City, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Education Practice High School, did not only spend time and effort packing boxes of books from Nhan Ai Bookcase to donate to schools and localities across the country like in the past many years.

"Now, you have also taken your own savings to contribute to buying books and school supplies to give to students in the mountainous district of Tuong Duong (Nghe An) who have just suffered damage from the recent floods. I believe that after these meaningful humanitarian activities, you will grow up in your outlook on life and the world ," Mr. Hoai shared.
Speaking to Thanh Nien Newspaper, Ms. Vo Tuyet Chinh, Vice Chairwoman of Tam Quang Commune (Nghe An Province), said that many schools in neighboring communes were damaged. She said that there is a great need for support to rebuild and repair affected schools, as well as to supplement equipment for schools damaged by the flood.
Ms. Tran Thi Hang, a kindergarten teacher and Head of the Humanitarian Library - Wisdom House No. 2 Hoa Thanh - Hoa Tham hamlet, Yen Thanh commune (Nghe An province), is one of the people who are using the Humanitarian Bookcase to connect philanthropists with flood-affected localities. She is currently campaigning for disaster recovery work in schools in Con Cuong, Tuong Duong, and Ky Son communes.
As of August 3, the Hoa Thanh No. 2 Wisdom House group has collected 4 trucks of clothes to hand out to people. Ms. Hang said that the cleaning of schools is going well, but there is a need for uniforms and school supplies for children, such as a math set for kindergarteners and a recognition set for kindergarteners.
The group of students shared: What we are doing is not a big deal, we just want to share a little bit of our heart, a word of encouragement, and a wish for a "happy new school year" for you. We hope you will soon return to class, to study, to play, and to dream like all of us.
Wisdom House and Charity Bookshelf auction precious books to support Nghe An
Through two channels, Facebook and Zalo, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Director of the Institute for Lifelong Learning and founder of the House of Wisdom, co-founder of the Humanity Bookcase, announced the auction of two precious books to raise funds to support Nghe An province that has just experienced a historic storm and flood. The two books "Lifelong Learning" and "Chat with GenZ" traveled through eight islands and two hills, bringing back eight stamps from the Truong Sa archipelago (Truong Sa - Co Lin - Len Dao - Sinh Ton - Da Thi - Song Tu Tay - Da Tay - Da Dong A) and two stamps from the Humanity Bookcase and the House of Wisdom.
All proceeds will be used to buy books, computers and learning equipment, and send them to schools in the mountainous areas of Nghe An province, which have just experienced floods and storms that swept away all their libraries, books, computers, etc. As of August 3, Mr. Tuan said the auction amount has increased to 23 million VND. The auction will end at 11 p.m. on August 5.
