Melodies that shape the Fatherland

Spreading love and pride for the homeland and country, arousing the desire to contribute, many large art programs on the occasion of National Day September 2 are carefully prepared with the desire to once again remind the nation's heroic history through music .

Connecting history through art

The Melody of the Fatherland was held on the evening of August 27 at the Au Co Art Center ( Hanoi ), a major art program gathering the participation of many talented artists. Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong, art director of the Melody of the Fatherland program, shared that the program is a combination of singing, dancing, drama and circus. The selected works were born at each historical milestone, demonstrating the development of Vietnamese culture through each period. Through that, the program conveys the message: culture with eternal vitality has created a unique identity for each country and ethnic group. Art is the bridge between the past, present and future, enriching spiritual and cultural life and creating soft power for people to have more faith and contribute to building the country.

“The Melody of the Fatherland will be the crystallization of national culture through unique traditional works of art, famous songs from many periods that have left a deep impression in the hearts of audiences and listeners nationwide. Each performance is carefully staged, combining music with choreography and modern lighting and technical effects; the performance form is rich, colorful, both traditional and simple, sacred”, the leader of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism emphasized.

The program Melodies of the Fatherland consists of 3 parts: Vietnamese Soul, Country and Vietnamese Glory. Along with the songs that have been with us for many years, the program also includes a number of new compositions and large dance suites, elaborately staged. In particular, the performances are combined with installation art to create grand scenes, with constant changes of color on stage, exploiting the artistic elements of costumes and music, expressing the nation's patriotic aspirations and struggle for peace .

Sharing about the program, chief choreographer Tuyet Minh said that the dance performances were calculated and staged by the crew so that the audience could feel the flow of culture and tradition that has been nurtured for generations; depict the appearance and shape of the country, and explain the origin of love for the homeland in the minds of the Vietnamese people.

Music expresses love for the homeland

First introduced to the public in 2009, the concert Dieu Con Mai took place at 2 p.m. on September 2 at the Opera House (Hanoi) - the moment Uncle Ho read the Declaration of Independence giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, and has become an indispensable spiritual food for music lovers on the occasion of National Day September 2. This year, musician Tran Manh Hung will take on the position of Music Director. He shared: "Dieu Con Mai 2023 takes symphonic music as the foundation but does not forget to honor national values and does not ignore the element of the times."

In addition to the famous works that have stood the test of time such as: Shadow of the Konia tree (Phan Huynh Dieu), Bright moon of two regions (An Chung), Winter shirt (Do Nhuan), Lullaby of the country (Van Thanh Nho), Melody of the Fatherland (Tran Tien), Loving Fatherland (Ho Bac)... with new arrangements, this year's national concert Dieu con mai also introduces new songs that are loved by many young people such as: My kool Vietnam (Thanh Bui), Vietnamese hearts (Phuong Uyen)... For the first time, Dieu con mai will be conducted by Dong Quang Vinh - a young, talented conductor with many successes in conducting in both vocal and instrumental fields as well as in the field of traditional Vietnamese music.

Conductor Dong Quang Vinh expressed his happiness when participating in Dieu Con Mai 2023 for the first time: "Being able to perform live for domestic audiences as the conductor of Dieu Con Mai is an extremely honorable thing." Conductor Dong Quang Vinh also said that he has prepared every detail so that the music can convey the original author's and the arranger's ideas, bringing works that are both proud of the past and imbued with the new breath of the times.

Saxophonist An Tran is one of the new elements this year. An Tran was born in 2004, the youngest artist participating in the program, she is also the daughter of artist Tran Manh Tuan. Sharing about Mother Loves Child, a song associated with many famous artists, An Tran said: "Previous singers sang with the love of a mother for her child, while I expressed the heart of a child for his parents. Therefore, I hope to convey the song with the most gentle, innocent and emotional spirit through the sound of the saxophone."

For many artists, the national concert What Remains Forever is like a memory, a musical dream of the Vietnamese people about love for the Fatherland and love for humanity.
