Young people's travel trends are changing rapidly today, with a preference for personalized, modern and culturally diverse experiences.

Analysis by Booking.com, a leader in digital travel, shows that Gen Z is using technology at every step of their travel journey, from using AI to plan their trip ahead of time, to searching for amenities and tech services at their accommodations, to using technology to capture memories after their trip.

Young people love personalized, modern and culturally diverse travel experiences

51% of Vietnamese Gen Z travelers surveyed said they feel comfortable relying on technology to create unforgettable travel experiences. 50% shared that they trust artificial intelligence (AI) to recommend less crowded and unknown tourist destinations. 67% would use AI travel planning technology to schedule their trip

Spend smart

Although Gen Z considers travel an indispensable part of life, they are still very concerned about spending wisely. They often travel during the off-season to save costs and choose unique, one-of-a-kind experiences for their trip.

Gen Z travelers tend to choose short domestic trips

In 2024, 62% of Vietnamese Gen Z travelers surveyed shared that they tend to choose short domestic trips lasting from 1 to 4 nights. Considering financial factors, 62% choose to travel during the low season to save costs. 63% "hunt" for discount codes from loyalty programs to optimize costs as much as possible.

When considering their travel budget in 2024, 69% want to choose destinations with unique travel experiences such as skydiving or hot air ballooning.

Balance between traveling alone and with family

For Vietnamese Gen Z, close relationships play an important role in how they choose their destinations and how they experience each journey. This generation wants to travel to strengthen personal relationships. Social media and digital relationships play an important role in helping them make decisions about their travel. Booking.com's report shows that 64% of Gen Z respondents in Vietnam said they tend to travel with family members, 58% with their parents and 44% with their spouse. 71% are inspired to travel by information shared by friends or relatives on social media.

Young travelers balance solo and family travel

Vietnamese Gen Z is not afraid to travel alone. This is shown by the number of 52% of respondents who said they had traveled alone in the past 6 months and 72% are planning solo trips in the next 12 months.

Choose a familiar and convenient place to stay

Vietnamese Gen Z tends to repeat habits, with 80% admitting that they have returned to a place they have stayed and felt comfortable staying. This generation wants a simple, quick experience and does not have many obstacles when booking many different services at the same time.

Gen Z wants a simple, fast, and frictionless experience

Relaxation travel, mind relaxation

Gen Z travelers are more concerned about their physical and mental health. According to a Booking survey, 61% of Gen Z travelers in Vietnam said that the main reason they travel is to relax, and 29% want to connect more deeply with themselves.

The main important factor that motivates the young generation to travel is to relax.

For this generation, travel is not just about exploring new lands but also a way for them to express their personal identity with the support of AI and digital tools to optimize personalized experiences.
