Growing up with the country

What is easily noticeable in the poetry collection Be Yeu To Quoc (Ho Chi Minh City General Publishing House) by Cao Mai Trang is the passionate spirit of patriotism. Through 50 short poems, love and pride for the country are fostered from the names of places: Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City, the ancient capital of Hue, Ha Long Bay, Phu Quoc...; from ordinary people: workers, teachers, firefighters, doctors...; or the traditional beauty of the nation: the ao dai, the ao ba ba, conical hats, water puppetry...

Each poem is accompanied by colorful paintings by artist Nhat Anh Pham, helping children appreciate and be grateful to the previous generations: Generations of fathers and grandfathers/ Fought for peace / For the beloved homeland/ Did not hesitate to sacrifice.

On this occasion, Kim Dong Publishing House launched the book series "Predecessors of Revolution", which brings together writers of the past such as Le Minh, Viet Linh, Le Quoc Su, Son Tung, Nghiem Da Van. The lives and careers of the previous revolutionary leaders through authentic and touching memoirs are vividly portrayed by the authors. Thanks to that, the portraits of the nation's outstanding sons such as To Hieu, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Ngo Gia Tu, Nguyen Huu Tien, Ton Duc Thang, Nguyen Duc Canh, Tran Phu appear closer, helping today's readers understand more about the historical context, social situation, and the revolutionary path to gain independence and freedom for the Fatherland.

As an author specializing in writing poems for children, known through the works: The sea is a child; My old days; My house is the happiest; Flying over Hoan Kiem Lake, recently poet Huynh Mai Lien (currently working at Vietnam Television) continues to release the poetry collection Four seasons of flying flags (Nha Nam and Writers Association Publishing House).

“With Four Seasons of Flying Flags, I want to tell readers, children, stories about Truong Sa, about the love of Vietnamese people for the sea and islands. I write for them topics about the Fatherland seen from the East Sea with the hope that even though today they are living on the mainland, in a modern, full living environment, remember that in their hearts there is always a beat for Hoang Sa, Truong Sa, for Vietnam,” poet Huynh Mai Lien shared.

Proud of our roots

A new publishing unit, gathering young people with the goal of making purely Vietnamese books for children, on this occasion, Slowbooks brings the picture book I am Vietnamese (Vietnamese Women Publishing House) by the author group: Quynh Huong - Hoang Anh - Maru. Throughout the 52 pages of the book is an innocent, sincere but joyful narrative voice of Vietnamese students when proudly talking about their beloved Vietnam.

Each page of the book is like a stanza and each stanza is an explanation of why children love their country. It can be things related to tradition such as fairy tales, cuisine , traditional arts, history or geography, natural landscapes...

“This picture book is dedicated to children who are proud to have Vietnamese blood in their veins. We believe that the sustainable development of modern society must be linked to the ability to continue the glorious past of our ancestors. Patriotism is something that needs to be nurtured through many generations. But let us also hope that the ultimate destination of love for our homeland is that each of us can live in peace with ourselves, others and the world around us,” Quynh Huong, representative of the group of authors, expressed.

As a unit specializing in making pure Vietnamese books for children, Lionbooks on this occasion brings the publication Khac Noi - We Grow Up Together with the Country (Hanoi Publishing House). The publication includes 9 articles from many authors and experts, with the same theme of building confidence in children, through the journey of inheriting, preserving and transmitting Vietnamese culture. All profits from the publication will be sent by this unit to the Vietnam Fatherland Front, to contribute to spreading love and connecting the community, especially helping people recover after the storm.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Chieu Xuan, Director of Lionbooks, said: “We hope to pass on to our children’s generation publications that carry the breath of Vietnam, from familiar things to the most profound values. We believe that, when nurtured by indigenous culture, children will grow up with confidence, steadfastness and pride in their roots.”
