Development of mechanical mold industry

The Vietnamese mechanical mold market has been undergoing significant changes in recent times, as mold technology is considered the foundation of the manufacturing industry. Enterprises have been investing in improving product quality to better meet the needs of domestic and foreign partners.

The development potential is great, but the development level of most Vietnamese mold manufacturing enterprises is still at the initial stage. To compete and participate more deeply in the production chain, enterprises need policy support and create favorable conditions for development.

Wide open space

In the field of mechanical engineering, the field of mold manufacturing is one of the particularly important manufacturing industries, considered the "foundation of industry". Molds are the "key" to open the era of mass production of industrial products for a country that is promoting the production of goods like Vietnam.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade , the value of the mold and precision engineering industry in Vietnam is currently over 1 billion USD/year. With a growth rate of 18%/year, this industry is attracting the attention of many domestic and foreign enterprises.

The demand for molds for plastic, mechanical, machine parts, components, etc. production to improve product quality is very large, helping domestic enterprises increase their capacity to participate in the global supply chain. From small-scale establishments, Vietnam has become an attractive destination for global manufacturers thanks to competitive costs, abundant labor force and increasingly high technical level.

However, to improve production capacity and compete with international markets, enterprises in the industry not only need to invest in modern machinery, but also apply advanced technical solutions. The State has issued many policies to develop supporting industries, including the mechanical and mold sectors, from tax reduction, financial support and training programs to improve skills for the workforce. These are important factors to help this industry develop sustainably.

Over 10 years ago, Dong Nai prioritized calling for investment in the supporting industry sector, thus attracting many foreign enterprises. In addition, domestic enterprises have gradually increased their investment in this sector and have participated in the global supply chain. The province has had activities to create a bridge connecting Vietnamese enterprises with foreign enterprises, in which the typical activities of the Supporting Industry Development Promotion Coordinator Group are to help enterprises exploit their potential and advantages.

Must overcome challenges

For businesses, the reality is that the quality of highly skilled and technical workers is still low, so businesses have to spend a lot of time training them to become skilled workers. Limited technological capacity and lack of high-quality human resources are some of the difficulties that the mechanical mold industry is facing.

Pham Ngoc Duy, factory director of Huynh Duc Production, Trade and Service Company Limited (Amata Industrial Park, Bien Hoa City), said that many other mechanical enterprises are still facing difficulties in terms of production space as well as lack of linkage chains for development. Therefore, the State needs to create conditions for production linkages between enterprises, between Vietnamese enterprises and foreign partners, as well as production space for local enterprises. In addition to support from management agencies, enterprises need to quickly grasp new technologies, develop digital transformation to improve competitiveness, management capacity, etc.

Similarly, according to Mr. Truong The Trung, Director of Tien Huy Mold Mechanical Co., Ltd. (Song May Industrial Park, Trang Bom District), the company is accelerating its development speed, upgrading its production process, and strengthening quality management to better serve its customers. The Dong Nai mold mechanical market is growing strongly with the participation of many domestic and foreign companies. However, not all units can meet the requirements of quality, progress, and price. To overcome the limitations, the company also invested in an additional factory to produce mechanical parts and components with a capacity of 200 tons of products/year. This is a condition for the company to have more ability to cooperate and receive large orders from partners.

The important thing that enterprises want is for the state to provide general directions, suitable for market development, to act as a bridge for enterprises to approach and cooperate with large units and foreign corporations that have the need to localize their raw materials, thereby developing their production capacity.
