On the afternoon of September 6, doctors and nurses at the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center, Con Dao Special Zone, Ho Chi Minh City, successfully performed laparoscopic surgery to remove appendicitis for a 36-year-old male patient residing in Con Dao Special Zone. This is the first laparoscopic surgery performed in this locality.
According to the representative of Con Dao Military Medical Center, the patient was admitted with pain in the right iliac fossa. After examination, testing and ultrasound, the doctors diagnosed the patient with acute appendicitis.
Doctor Ly Bao Duy, Binh Dan Hospital, who is on rotation to work at Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center, had a remote consultation with the Board of Directors of Binh Dan Hospital and was assigned to perform surgery. With the modern endoscopic surgery system that the Health Department had just equipped for the Center, the surgery was performed at 4:00 p.m. the same day, and went smoothly and successfully.
This is one of the first concrete results of the rotating team of specialist doctors working in Con Dao special zone, demonstrating an important step forward in improving the quality of medical examination and treatment for Con Dao people, helping to reduce pressure on referrals and provide timely emergency support right at the local level.
