"Drifting" on journeys

“Have you ever written a travel diary or named your journey emotions?”, that was the question I received from a friend I had just met on a shared bus from Nui Thanh to Hoi An, one day in mid-August.

Wandering through the realm of emotions

Célestine Lefèvre, from Bordeaux, a city in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region in southwestern France, is an exhibition designer. She is on a long trip to central Vietnam.

The 28-year-old has traveled to 19 countries around the world . At each destination, she spends days, even weeks, exploring, experiencing, and following a journey guided by many layers of emotions.

More than a month ago, Célestine said she was filled with excitement when she joined a surfing class at My Khe Beach, Da Nang. She spent the whole day on the sand, enjoying the vibrant festival atmosphere there. Célestine also had an “explosive” experience watching fireworks from the sea, feeling the magic of each layer of light-colored, sparkling waves hitting the shore.

To her, "the brilliant summer sea in the heart of the city, like a melodious, bustling melody, spreading endless inspiration, making her feet want to run as fast as possible, towards joy."

And now Célestine has just returned from the fishing village of Tam Hai, Nui Thanh, where there is nothing but wildness and peace. Every early morning, she follows the islanders to the sea to welcome the sunrise, to watch the simple lives, and then to enjoy them.

Without music or events to guide her, she just let the drizzling afternoons drift by, wandering through small alleys, stopping by a seaweed vendor, sipping the sweet, cool ginger syrup... A journey not for those in a hurry, but containing a precious gift: a connection with the rustic locality. Célestine chose to go slowly, to feel more deeply.

As for me, I choose to remember, about an interesting stranger I just met, and how she contemplated: “Multi-emotional travel is opening your heart to different nuances of the same destination. Each time, each season, each moment can bring new inspiration. It is that diversity that makes the value of the journey, helping us not only explore the world, but also find deep layers of emotions in the soul”.

Every season, every joy

A few years ago, the tourist season was often defined by the weather or major events at the destination. But today’s travelers have made a dramatic shift in their choice of experiences, with more diversity and flexibility.

They seek out new and unique things, go beyond the usual barriers, are open to all aspects, and enjoy both the excitement and tranquility of a land. This creates opportunities for the tourism industry to develop more sustainably and creatively.

In late August and early September, when the summer festival season gradually comes to an end, tourism activities in Da Nang city also shift to a different rhythm.

Trips no longer revolve around the excitement of the surface, but focus on exploring wild nature, experiencing indigenous culture and authentically connecting with the community. The itineraries are specially designed, meticulously, and of high quality, combining various types of ecology and culture, deeply exploiting the values and unique identities of the regions.

“Traveling in the right season, with favorable weather, coinciding with the holidays can bring visitors the most complete experience, but that does not mean that choosing to travel during the low season, when everything becomes more “disadvantageous”, is less surprising and interesting. Each season has its own fun, and even the low season has its own advantages,” said Mr. Nguyen Quang Duc, Executive Director of the VietFun Adventure project (VietFun Group).

As the person who comes up with ideas for each journey and directly accompanies tourists on the trekking route of Tay Giang, Da Nang, Mr. Duc understands that nature is always a precious gift, containing many interesting things at different times of the year. This August, VietFun Adventure designed two specialized tours to serve the needs of groups of adventure enthusiasts, with a 5km trekking journey through the forest and rafting across streams in Arec village, exploring the unexpected colors of the Truong Son forest at the change of seasons.

On that journey, the light rain suddenly came and went, making the forest greener, highlighting the purple color of the mua flowers along the red dirt path. This was the ideal time to go and feel the changing features of the mountains and forests, sometimes hidden in the misty clouds, sometimes lit up by a deep green area after a storm.

The cold air gradually permeates as the day turns to night, which is when people walk faster towards the villages, where the fire flickers warmly next to the Co Tu people's stoves...
