(Dan Tri) - Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long directed the Ministry of Education and Training to carefully review, complete, and promulgate regulations on junior high school and high school admissions, and promptly announce exam plans to create conditions for schools and students to proactively review.
The above content is in a document issued by the Government Office conveying the opinion of Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long, in handling press information reflecting on the draft regulations on junior high school and high school admissions.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister , recently, the press has reported information related to the draft regulations on middle school and high school enrollment.
Accordingly, the draft regulations on junior high school and high school admissions proposes that the 10th grade exam will include three subjects including math, literature and a third subject or a combined exam selected by the Department of Education and Training and the university with the high school and announced before March 31 every year.

On forums, many parents agree with the plan to have 3 subjects for 10th grade high school entrance exams, but are concerned and worried about the "secret" 3rd subject being announced so close to the exam date.
Parents believe that the Ministry of Education and Training should adjust the exam announcement time earlier so that students can review.
In response to the above information, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long directed the Ministry of Education and Training to carefully review, research, and absorb public opinions to complete and promulgate regulations on middle school and high school enrollment according to its authority.
The Deputy Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Education and Training to consider the time and soon announce the exam plan to create favorable conditions for schools and students to proactively have appropriate and effective teaching and review plans.
2025 is the first year of implementing grade 10 enrollment according to the 2018 General Education Program.
The new general education program at the secondary level includes 10 compulsory subjects: math, literature, foreign languages, civics, natural sciences, history and geography, technology, information technology, physical education and arts.
Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training asked for opinions from localities on the draft regulations on junior high school and high school admissions.
According to the Ministry's proposal, the 10th grade entrance exam in provinces and cities will test three subjects including math, literature and one subject randomly drawn by the Department of Education and Training from the remaining subjects in the new general education program.
Exam subjects are drawn and announced before March 31 every year.
This proposal received many opinions both in agreement and disagreement.
One side argues that the third subject drawing option will force students to study all subjects instead of distinguishing between main and secondary subjects.
On the contrary, many opinions are concerned that this method could increase the pressure of extra studying and teaching on secondary school students.
On the sidelines of the conference summarizing the organization of the high school graduation exam for the period 2020-2024, preparing for the exam from 2025, which took place at the end of October, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong said that the spirit of the 10th grade entrance exam plan includes math, literature and a third subject selected by the Departments of Education and Training with the principle of changing every year. Changing the third subject is to avoid biased learning and rote learning.
Currently, provinces and cities organize 10th grade exams with different number of subjects. The most common is 3 subjects: math, literature, foreign language.
Hanoi has organized exams in three subjects: math, literature, and foreign languages for three consecutive years. Previously, the city had exams in four subjects, with one subject only announced around March each year.
This year, Hanoi has not announced the entrance exam plan for public 10th grade schools.
