Tan An Ward (Bac Ninh) ensures safety of dykes

In Tan An ward, there is a crack on the dike surface in Long Son and Tan Phuong villages, with a total length of about 1 km. Comrade Duong Van Duc, Chairman of the ward People's Committee, said: "This crack appeared a few years ago. Although it does not pose a danger to the dike, in July, we will pour concrete into the cracks; in the long term, we will complete the dike cross-section and pour concrete on the road surface."

A spillway point on the dike in Tan An ward has just been poured with solid concrete.

In the ward, there are 29.1 km of dikes (mainly dykes), so every time the rainy season comes, flood and storm prevention work is always given special attention by the local Party Committee and government. Remember, in April 2024, when storm YAGI made landfall, the water on Cau River, Luc Nam River and Thuong River rose. Some weak dike sections in the ward were flooded from the river, causing the dike roof to collapse or the river water to flow into the fields, causing widespread flooding, completely isolating some villages, with estimated damage of tens of billions of dong.

To proactively cope with this year's flood season, at this time, the weak points of the dike in Tan An ward have been repaired, upgraded and reinforced. In particular, the incidents of slope landslides and 6 broken sections, with a total length of more than 1 km, have been handled; 2 culverts across the dike have been renovated; 190 m of earthen ditches adjacent to the slope foot have been restored and about 3.7 km of dike has been reinforced...

On the other hand, the Ward People's Committee has inspected and evaluated the current status of natural disaster prevention and control works within its scope and management responsibility. It has identified key areas and allocated resources for handling.

Comrade Nguyen Xuan Minh, specialist of the Economic , Infrastructure and Urban Affairs Department of Tan An Ward, said: "In order to ensure the facilities to handle incidents during the rainy and flood season, the ward has signed contracts with units ready to fully supply pineapple bags, canvas, bamboo poles, wood and spare soil... All conditions are ready for possible situations." The Ward People's Committee also strengthens propaganda and dissemination of knowledge to raise awareness of the community and people about preventing, avoiding and responding to each type of natural disaster.

It is forecasted that in the coming time, the weather will have many complicated developments, but with the above specific measures, we believe that the dikes in Tan An ward will always be stable during the flood season, ensuring the safety of people's lives and property.
