On October 27, the Israeli army announced that its army, with the support of drones and fighter jets, had raided the Gaza Strip to attack Hamas forces.
The previous night, Israeli infantry also carried out a similar attack in the northern part of the territory. Before that, a Hamas delegation traveled to Moscow, Russia.
According to RT and Reuters, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that senior member of Hamas Political Council - Mr. Moussa Abu Marzouk is leading the delegation. The topic of negotiations between Russia and Hamas representatives is the release of hostages and the safe evacuation of Russians as well as other foreign citizens trapped in Gaza due to the Israeli blockade.
The Israeli government reacted strongly, demanding that Moscow expel the Hamas delegation and saying that Russia's reception of the Hamas delegation was an act of support for this force. Russia has relations with all the key parties in the Middle East, including Israel, Iran, the Palestinian Authority and Hamas. Moscow called on Israel and Hamas to cease fire and resume negotiations to find a peaceful solution.
According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mariaa Zakharova, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Baghiri Kani is also visiting Moscow. The UN Security Council is currently deadlocked in passing a resolution related to the conflict between the Hamas Islamic Movement and Israel. Two draft resolutions proposed by Russia and the US were not adopted. The UN General Assembly is discussing the conflict situation in the Gaza Strip on October 26 and 27.
Diplomatic sources said Arab countries are working on a new resolution, which could be voted on this week.
On October 26, the European Union Summit issued a statement calling for the establishment of “humanitarian corridors” to urgently bring essential aid into the Gaza Strip.
On the same day, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) released a report stating that about 96% of Gaza residents have fallen into poverty due to the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel. In the 2017-2018 period, this figure was 45%.
