On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the birth of General Secretary Tran Phu (May 1, 1904 - May 1, 2024), Kim Dong Publishing House introduces the excellent memoir "Tran Phu" by author Son Tung.

Born into a patriotic Confucian family, when he was only 4 years old, Tran Phu witnessed his father - district official Tran Van Pho hang himself to protest against the oppression of the French colonialists on our people. His father died, his mother struggled to raise her children. At the age of 6, after his mother died, Tran Phu was taken to Hue by relatives to be raised and educated.

At school, he was loved by friends and teachers not only for his intelligence and studiousness, but also for his straightforwardness, frankness, daring to defend the weak, fighting for justice, and especially his patriotism and national pride.

During his years in Hue, he also witnessed the decline of the Nguyen Dynasty, thought about the patriotic movements that had no guiding ideals, and he longed to find another path.

Graduating as valedictorian at the age of 18, Tran Phu returned to his father's hometown to become a teacher and began participating in the revolution. He was sent to Hong Kong to meet comrade Nguyen Ai Quoc, then to Moscow to study at the Oriental University of the Communist International.

In the homeland of the October Revolution, Tran Phu realized that "The title of Human is being perfected, initially affirmed from an expression: People stand straight in front of people; bowing, kneeling, and curling the tongue will be eliminated from human character".

In the middle of the Russian winter, Tran Phu recited the Communist Manifesto until he knew it by heart. From the grand scale of Marxism-Leninism, Tran Phu absorbed the basic principles and then applied them to the specific circumstances of Vietnam.

In April 1930, Tran Phu returned from France to Hong Kong to meet Nguyen Ai Quoc after the Party's founding conference, then received orders to return home to work.

In August 1930, Tran Phu completed the Political Platform. In October 1930, the First Conference of the Central Executive Committee of the Indochinese Communist Party approved the Platform and elected Tran Phu as Party Secretary.
