At exactly 11:11 a.m. on November 11, local time, the traditional carnival in Germany officially opened in the city of Cologne, in the West of the country, kicking off hundreds of unique festival activities. This is also an important festival season called the "5th season" of the year for the German people.

On the opening day, thousands of locals and domestic and foreign tourists in colorful costumes gathered in the city center, cheering, drinking beer and participating in many other exciting events, including outdoor music performances.

This traditional carnival season in Germany starts for about a week and then takes a break around Christmas before starting again on New Year's Day and lasting until Ash Wednesday (February 14), a holiday when Christians will focus on prayer and fasting.

Cologne, located on the banks of the poetic Rhine River, is the 4th largest city and one of the oldest cities in Germany. With a history of more than 2,000 years, Cologne is considered the land of churches and museums.
