Candidates in Hanoi have just completed the English exam for the 10th grade entrance exam. Many students rated the exam as "adequate". For many candidates who have studied English since childhood in good conditions in the inner city of Hanoi, getting a score of 8 or 9 is not too difficult.

The Hanoi 10th grade English entrance exam has a similar structure to the reference exam announced by the Department of Education and Training at the end of 2024, closely following the orientation of assessing language proficiency in a practical and flexible manner.

In terms of structure and scope of knowledge, the test consists of 40 multiple-choice questions, to be completed within 60 minutes, closely following the English curriculum for secondary schools and orienting the development of students' communication and reading comprehension skills.

The English teaching team of the Hoc Mai Education System determined that the proportion of recognition - comprehension - application questions is 20% - 40% - 40%; it is classified without causing much difficulty for candidates.

The test does not have trick questions, no advanced vocabulary questions or difficult idioms, and does not focus on tricks but requires carefulness, understanding the nature of knowledge and applying learned knowledge in practice to answer.

Questions related to reading, filling in and reading comprehension, answering questions when working with passages, requiring good reasoning and contextual processing skills, these are the parts to classify candidates.

Therefore, it is expected that there will be many candidates scoring 8 and 9, but the number of 10s will not be many.

Ms. Nguyen Lan Huong, English teacher at Hoai Duc B High School (Hanoi), also believes that with this test, students can easily get a score of 6.5 - 7, good students can get above 9, but to get a perfect score, both solid knowledge and carefulness are needed. This is a reasonable test, with good differentiation, accurately assessing students' abilities after secondary school.
