On August 11, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City provided information about the situation related to the American International Primary-Middle-High School (American International School).

According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, performing the function of state management of education at the local level, based on the provisions of Clause 2, Article 51 of the 2019 Law on Education, Article 31 of Decree No. 125/2024 of the Government regulating conditions for investment and operation in the field of education, the Department of Education and Training found that by the end of the suspension period according to the previous decision of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the American International School had not overcome the cause of the suspension, nor had it reported its financial capacity to maintain school operations.

Therefore, the Department of Education and Training of the City has issued Official Dispatch No. 65/2025 reporting the situation of the American International School to the City People's Committee for consideration and decision to dissolve the American International School at the address: No. 220 Nguyen Van Tao, Hiep Phuoc Commune, Ho Chi Minh City (old address: No. 220 Nguyen Van Tao, Long Thoi Commune, Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City) according to Clause 2, Article 51 of the 2019 Education Law.

In case the investor meets the conditions for establishment, he/she shall prepare a dossier for appraisal and permission to establish a general school with many levels according to current regulations.

According to the report of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, in September 2023, when grasping the information situation about Regarding the incident at the American International School related to the school's financial situation not being able to maintain operations, the City Department of Education and Training has advised the City People's Committee to establish an interdisciplinary working group.

In January 2024, the Department of Education and Training continuously organized many direct working sessions with the Chairman of the School Board and the Principal to find solutions to resolve the school's operational situation, but through the working process, it was found that the school did not have enough conditions to maintain teaching and learning activities.

In March 2024, the department coordinated with the City Police and other departments to develop plans to support students' learning, prioritizing ensuring students' learning rights; assigning professional and technical staff to directly go to schools to support, coordinate with the principal and school board to operate the school until the end of the 2023-2024 school year.

At the same time, request the Chairman of the School Board and the Principal of American International to urgently develop a specific plan and roadmap for restructuring American International Education JSC AIS to ensure resources and finance to continue implementing the goals, tasks, programs and educational content; facilities, equipment; organizational structure; strategic directions for school construction and development according to the provisions of Article 27 of Decree No. 46/2017 of the Government .

By June 2024, the American International School was found to not meet the conditions for permission to operate educationally, specifically: It did not have enough financial resources as prescribed to ensure the maintenance and development of educational activities; the number of management staff was not sufficient to implement the educational program and organize educational activities. The Department of Education and Training of the City issued Decision 2042/2024 to suspend the educational activities of the American International School ; the suspension period is 12 months.

During the period of suspension of educational activities, the Department issued documents guiding the implementation of reports with evidence of full remediation of the causes leading to the suspension.

In June 2025, the Department of Education and Training had a working session with representatives of AIS American International Education Joint Stock Company and American International School on the progress of the dossier to overcome the causes of suspension of educational activities; at the meeting, representatives of AIS American International Education Joint Stock Company and American International School submitted a request to extend the suspension period of educational activities at the school, specifically requesting to extend the suspension period of educational activities from June 30, 2025 to June 30, 2026 (12 months).

However, in the document of AIS American International Education Joint Stock Company, American International School has not yet stated how to overcome the cause leading to the suspension of educational activities. Thus, by the end of the suspension period in Decision No. 2042, this school has not overcome the cause leading to the suspension.

As reported by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper , the scandal at the American International School started in early October 2023, when some parents gathered to hang banners demanding debt in front of the gate of the American International School.
