Strengthening cooperation between Vietnam - Singapore in the field of semiconductors

On the afternoon of August 26, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui Hoang Phuong received and worked with a delegation of businesses from the Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association (SSIA), opening up many cooperation opportunities in the context of the strong development of Vietnam's semiconductor industry.

Also attending the meeting were leaders of the Department of Information Technology Industry, Department of International Cooperation, Department of Science, Technology and Technology, Department of Technology Assessment and Appraisal, VKIST Institute, Institute of Technology Application; along with representatives of several large domestic enterprises (FPT , Viettel, VNPT...) and representatives of several universities (Hanoi National University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology...).

On the Singapore side, there were the participation of SSIA member enterprises such as Hitachi High Tech, MFSG Pte. Ltd, Emerson, Innogrity, Curve Semiconductor, Hitec Innovative Technologies, Bitsilica...

At the meeting, the Ministry of Science and Technology introduced Vietnam's semiconductor industry development policies and the SSIA shared information related to the semiconductor industry in Singapore, one of the leading semiconductor manufacturing centers in the region. The two sides also exchanged and discussed issues related to policy mechanisms, investment potential, as well as cooperation opportunities in the semiconductor and supporting industries.

SSIA is currently a non-profit organization representing the Singapore semiconductor industry, established in 2005, with more than 250 members covering the entire semiconductor industry value chain, from IC design, manufacturing, fabless, equipment and material supply to training and research services. SSIA plays an important role as a bridge between Singapore and the global semiconductor value chain.

SSIA representative shared that Vietnam is emerging as a potential destination in the high-tech field. At the same time, he highly appreciated the development orientation of the Vietnamese Government in building a semiconductor ecosystem and wished to cooperate closely with Vietnamese enterprises, research institutes and universities. This will be an opportunity for both sides to share experiences, promote innovation and create sustainable values ​​for the semiconductor industry in the region.

Sharing at the meeting, Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong said that Vietnam considers semiconductors a strategic industry and is actively developing policies to develop the domestic ecosystem. The Ministry of Science and Technology wishes to promote cooperation with SSIA and its member enterprises in many aspects such as:

1. Technology transfer, support for innovation in microchip design and production;

2. Forming a domestic supply chain, sharing experiences in operating chip factories;

3. Attracting investment, connecting SSIA enterprises with Vietnamese enterprises;

4. Developing research and development (R&D) cooperation, product commercialization and training of high-quality human resources;

5. Support management agencies in the process of formulating policies for the development of the semiconductor industry.

Strengthening cooperation with SSIA is expected to contribute to Vietnam's gradual deeper participation in the global semiconductor supply chain, while promoting the sustainable development of the domestic semiconductor industry.
