At the event, Huawei called on global carriers and industry partners to quickly seize the opportunity and explore new frontiers with 5G and 5.5G (5G-Advanced, also known as 5G-A), to meet growing network demands, keep up with trends, and open up new successes in the future.

Mr. Ken Hu, Huawei's Rotating Chairman, and Mr. Granryd, GSMA's Director General, discussed the successes in 5G application and outlined the future development direction of 5G.

“Technology is changing rapidly and users’ demands for new experiences are constantly increasing. Therefore, network connectivity also needs to be innovated and developed continuously. The entire industry needs to be ready for the future and maximize the value of investing in 5G. Huawei has been working with its partners to develop 5.5G to achieve this goal,” said Ken Hu.

Speaking about the next development direction for 5G, Mr. Ken Hu mentioned important initiatives that are user-oriented and help mobile operators achieve business success. Initiatives include: Expanding network coverage, enhancing user experience and exploring flexible pricing models.

For the B2B market, Mr. Ken Hu suggested that industries should apply 5G to large-scale production and operations. In this process, mobile operators can enhance their self-positioning capabilities and seize new opportunities by enhancing their capabilities on the Cloud, developing industrial applications and integrating terminal systems.

According to Li Peng, the future mobile network needs to have 6 key features: 10 Gbps download speed; 1 Gbps upload speed; deterministic network; support for hundreds of billions of IoT connections; integrated sensors and communication, and native AI capabilities. To achieve these features, operators and industry partners must not only continuously improve the capabilities of 3 core application scenarios: Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB), Massive Machine-Type Communications (mMTC), Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communications (URLLC); but also develop 2 new capabilities including: Uplink Centric Broadband Communication (UCBC) and Real-Time Broadband Communication (RTBC).

Speaking about 5.5G, the next step of 5G technology development, Mr. Li Peng called for close cooperation from the entire industry to jointly promote the development of application and device ecosystems, identify scenarios, and accelerate the large-scale commercialization of FWA2, Passive IoT, and RedCap. These efforts are crucial to fully grasp the five new trends that will shape the future intelligent digital economy...
