The achievement was announced during a multinational event in the South China Sea called “Exercise Pacific Reach” (XPR), where the Indian Navy emerged as a proactive maritime partner.
Indian officials said on September 27 that this success was achieved when an Indian submarine, along with submarines from other countries in the exercise in the East Sea, successfully carried out all "intervention and rescue operations".
The exercise, which began on September 15 and is being hosted by Singapore, saw participation from over 40 countries. The Indian Navy’s indigenously developed Submarine Rescue Unit (East) and Diving Support Vessel (DV) participated in complex intervention and rescue operations.
The milestone underscores India's capabilities in global submarine rescue efforts and commitment to maintaining regional maritime security.
The commissioning of Deep Submersible Rescue Vessels (DSRVs) has placed India in the elite group of nations that possess dedicated submarine rescue systems.
