Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, An Giang have just held the third entrance exam for grade 10 of public high school in the 2025-2026 school year.
The Nam Dinh Department of Education and Training has just announced that the third subject of the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year in the province is Foreign Language; in which candidates can choose one of the following subjects: English, Russian or French.
Candidates will have 60 minutes to complete the test; the test format is a combination of multiple choice and essay questions, in which the multiple choice part accounts for no more than 75% of the total test score.
The People's Committee of Ninh Binh province has just issued a plan for 10th grade high school enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year in the area. Accordingly, candidates registering for the exam and admission to mass high schools in Ninh Binh province will take 3 subjects: Math, Literature and English.
Candidates registering for the exam and admission to Luong Van Tuy Specialized High School will take 4 subjects: Math, Literature, English and 1 specialized subject according to the specialized class registered for the exam. Of which, Math and Literature will be essay-based or a combination of essay and multiple-choice; English will be multiple-choice; specialized subjects will be essay-based or a combination of essay and multiple-choice.

The Department of Education and Training of An Giang province has also decided that the third subject in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year in the province is English. Thus, students in this province will take three subjects: Math, Literature, and English.
The Department of Education and Training requests its affiliated units to propagate and disseminate to all teachers, students and parents the third subject of the 10th grade entrance exam in order to promptly teach and foster knowledge for students, meeting the requirements of the entrance exam.
On February 7, in a telegram sent to the Ministry of Education and Training and the People's Committees of provinces and cities, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested localities to complete the announcement of the junior high school and high school enrollment plan for the 2025-2026 school year in February 2025 so that students, teachers, schools, and general education institutions can proactively prepare for enrollment.
The Prime Minister also requested localities to prepare well for organizing enrollment, ensuring transparency, practicality, and reducing pressure and costs for society.
Currently, at least 23 provinces and cities have announced or are planning to introduce a third subject. Except for Vinh Phuc, all provinces have chosen foreign languages or English.

In the regulations on secondary and high school admissions from 2025 issued in early January 2025, the Ministry of Education and Training clearly stipulates that the entrance exam for grade 10 includes two compulsory subjects: Math, Literature and a third subject (or a combined test). This subject is selected by the Department of Education and Training from subjects assessed by scores, but no subject can be selected for more than three consecutive years.
Provinces and cities can announce the third exam after the end of the first semester but no later than March 31 every year. The content of the 10th grade entrance exam is included in the general secondary education program, mainly grade 9. The time for the Literature test is 120 minutes, Math 90, the third subject 60 or 90 minutes, the combined test 90 or 120 minutes.
For high schools under the Ministry of Education and Training, universities, colleges, and research institutes that organize their own entrance exams, the third exam subject or a combination exam of a number of remaining subjects is selected by the Ministry of Education and Training, universities, colleges, and research institutes directly managed by them.
