In the gratitude ceremony , Thi Van gave his grandmother a bouquet of flowers and thanked her: "Without you, I don't know what my life would be like...".

Thi Van said that since his parents were busy making a living, he lived with his grandmother from birth, only seeing his parents a couple of times a month. When he was in 5th grade, Thi Van's mother passed away due to lupus. Since then, his grandmother has been raising him, taking care of his every meal, sleep, and study.

"After my mother passed away, it was the worst time of my life. I almost lost all my faith in life. My grandparents pulled me out of that negativity and took care of me many times more because they were afraid that I would be at a disadvantage compared to my friends and lack family affection," Thi Van said.

Mrs. Tran Thi Thu Hong, 67 years old, said she had not cried as much as she did today in a long time. Partly because she saw her grandchild alone without his parents attending the ceremony to close 12 years of school, but more importantly because she saw that her grandchild had grown up at the age of 18.

Ms. Hong shared that she always tells Thi Van that the first thing he needs to cultivate is morality. He should think of others before thinking of himself.

"Over the years, I have always taught my child to be tolerant and to look at life with love. He may lack love from his parents, but when he gives his love to those around him, he will certainly receive happiness in return," Ms. Hong confided.

Not only the story of Thi Van’s grandmother and grandchild, the gratitude and maturity ceremony for 12th grade students of Tan Phu Primary, Secondary and High School (HCMC) left many emotions for the attendees. Many parents shed tears when they saw their children kneel down, present flowers and express gratitude.

Pham Nguyen Phuong Anh, a 12th grade student, shared: "Our parents' children are now more mature and confident than before. Away from our parents, we know how to spend money wisely. We know how hard our parents worked to earn every penny to raise us to study.

Our children can now live an independent life, cook by themselves, go shopping by themselves, take their broken car to get repaired, and know how to take good care of themselves. We are very grateful to our parents for giving us the opportunity to challenge ourselves so that we can stand on our own two feet."

No road is smooth

Sending a message to students about to leave school to step into a new horizon, Ms. Truong Hoang Kim Duc, the school's vice principal, hopes that they will remember one thing: "There is no smooth road, challenges will only help us become more mature and steadfast."

In addition, Ms. Duc sent a message that "love - respect - responsibility" are three core values ​​that each of you should always build and perfect.
