During a meeting with reporters today, Mr. Clavano said that Mayor Alice Guo of Bamban town has not left the Philippines based on information he received from other agencies, according to the Philippine Daily Inquirer .
Mayor Alice Guo of Bamban town (Philippines) is suspended from office.
During a Senate hearing on July 29, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Assistant Director Angelito Magno said there were reports of Guo being seen in Bulacan province. However, Magno noted that the sightings were made before the Senate issued an arrest warrant for her on July 11.
Ms. Guo was arrested by the Senate for failing to attend a hearing on charges related to illegal offshore gambling companies in the Philippines. She has been suspended from her post.
Also on July 29, NBI Director Jaime Santiago announced that agents and intelligence units from NBI headquarters were conducting a manhunt for Ms. Guo. Ms. Guo’s lawyer, Stephen David, confirmed about two weeks ago that his client was still in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, The Filipino Times quoted Philippine Senator Sherwin Gatchalian as saying that Ms. Guo may have left the Philippines using a Chinese passport.
According to the NBI, Ms. Guo and Chinese national Guo Hua Ping are the same person. Congressman Gatchalian said Ms. Guo used her Philippine and Chinese passports from 2008 to 2011.
Ms Guo had previously claimed that she was a Filipino citizen and the illegitimate child of her father and his maid. She even produced a birth certificate showing her mother's name was Amelia Leal.
However, Senator Risa Hontiveros presented several documents to the media showing the suspected relationship between Ms. Guo and a Chinese citizen named Lam Van Y.
Congressman Hontiveros noted that Ms. Lam was one of Ms. Guo’s co-founders in at least seven businesses. Earlier, Congressman Gatchalian said local residents could confirm that Ms. Lam was known as Ms. Guo’s mother.
