Da Nang has favorable conditions for developing e-commerce.
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Da Nang Nguyen Van Tru, the city has identified promoting the application of e-commerce in the retail sector as one of the key tasks to realize the goal of building a smart, modern, dynamic and livable city.
Workshop on promoting e-commerce application for retail industry organized by Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade on the morning of September 24.
In the first 8 months of 2025, the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the whole city is estimated to reach more than 168 trillion VND, an increase of 24% over the same period in 2024. Of which, retail sales of goods are estimated at nearly 92 trillion VND, an increase of 16.4%; retail sales in supermarkets and shopping centers are estimated at nearly 8 trillion VND, an increase of nearly 17% over the same period.
The city's commercial infrastructure system is increasingly developing with more than 500 supermarkets, shopping malls and convenience store chains, 240 markets of all kinds in addition to tens of thousands of traditional stores, creating a widespread goods distribution network, meeting the increasingly diverse needs of residents and tourists.
According to Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Tran Chi Cuong, with the role of a major socio -economic center of the Central region, Da Nang has favorable conditions to strongly develop e-commerce. Including modern IT infrastructure, a high proportion of young population, increasingly popular digital consumption habits, and the city's consistent orientation in building digital government, digital economy and digital society.
Encouraging e-commerce applications for retail
However, in order for Da Nang's retail industry to develop sustainably in the context of deep international economic integration and increasing competitive pressure, Mr. Tran Chi Cuong emphasized the need for the cooperation of many entities: management agencies, industry associations, enterprises, cooperatives, business households and small traders.
The Department of Industry and Trade, as the standing agency, needs to proactively develop and implement programs and projects to support businesses, cooperatives, business households, and small traders in applying e-commerce in the next 2-3 years. The focus is on organizing training, coaching on digital skills, online business skills, and providing guidance on payment, transportation, and promotion platforms.
At the same time, the Department of Industry and Trade needs to closely coordinate with relevant agencies to promptly remove difficulties in mechanisms and policies, creating the most favorable conditions for businesses and people to participate in e-commerce. The police, tax, statistics, departments of science and technology, culture, sports and tourism, finance, agriculture and environment... should promote their roles, closely coordinate and synchronize in managing and supporting e-commerce development.
Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People's Committee Tran Chi Cuong spoke at the workshop.
The Vice Chairman of Da Nang City requested units to proactively and persistently remove difficulties and create the most favorable conditions for e-commerce to become one of the important driving forces to promote the development of the retail industry. At the same time, he requested the Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM), VCCI Central... to closely accompany the business community, support small traders and business households to access and apply e-commerce.
Strengthening coordination with trading floors and digital technology platforms, electronic payment solution providers such as Shopee, VNPAY, MoMo... to create conditions for businesses and people to access safe, modern and transparent online business channels.
Mr. Tran Chi Cuong also said that the Da Nang City government strongly encourages the spirit of entrepreneurship, innovation, and the development of new digital business models in the retail sector. Thereby, it contributes to creating more vitality and expanding market access opportunities for the city's business community and small traders.
With that spirit, he suggested that businesses, cooperatives, production facilities, and small traders in markets, supermarkets, shopping malls, convenience stores, etc. need to boldly change their business mindset. Proactively switch from traditional sales to combining with e-commerce, taking advantage of online platforms, social networks, and digital platforms to expand consumption channels. In particular, it is necessary to focus on promoting and consuming OCOP products, local specialty products, and typical rural industrial products.
"The city government will accompany and support, but the initiative and determination of businesses and small traders themselves are the decisive factors for success in this transformation process," Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Tran Chi Cuong emphasized.
