The US said Sweden officially became a NATO member from March 7.
During his visit to the US, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson handed over the final documents to the US government on March 7, completing the final step in the process to gain the support of all NATO members if he wants to join the military alliance.
"Good things come to those who wait," Reuters quoted US Secretary of State Antony Blinken as saying at the time of receiving the documents from Prime Minister Kristersson.
"This is a historic moment for Sweden, for our alliance and for the transatlantic relationship," Mr. Blinken said.
For NATO, the admission of Sweden and Finland marks its most significant expansion in decades.
And Prime Minister Kristersson also called March 7 a historic day, when Sweden officially joined NATO.
The Nordic country's presence promises to add a significant number of advanced submarine fleets and Gripen fighter squadrons to NATO, while also becoming an important link between the Atlantic and the Baltic region.

The above development is expected to attract a response from Russia. Previously, Moscow warned that it would use " political and military-technical" measures to respond to Sweden's move.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reassured Sweden that the country is now under the protection of the military alliance.
