US President Joe Biden congratulated General Secretary and President To Lam and looked forward to working with him to continue promoting Vietnam-US relations.
On August 7, the White House website posted congratulations from US President Joe Biden on the occasion of President To Lam being elected General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
President Joe Biden wrote: “I would like to congratulate President To Lam on his election as General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Nearly a year ago, Vietnam and the United States established a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership – marking a new era of strong cooperation between our two countries. Vice President Harris and I look forward to working with General Secretary Lam to continue this historic process and support a strong, independent, prosperous, and resilient Vietnam.”
In September 2023, during US President Joe Biden's State visit to Vietnam, the two sides adopted a Joint Statement, elevating the Vietnam-US relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development./.
