Tottenham considers selling Son Heung-min to American team

Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min's future is becoming a hot topic as the club considers a £15 million offer from Major League Soccer (MLS) side Los Angeles FC (LAFC).

The 33-year-old South Korean star is a transfer target for the American team, putting his position in North London into question.

According to SunSport , Tottenham could be willing to accept a fee of between £15 and £20 million, with LAFC said to be leading the race to sign Son Heung-min. However, the deal is still dependent on the MLS representative agreeing to meet the transfer conditions, as well as Son Heung-min's personal decision. The South Korean is still weighing up the options of leaving or staying with Spurs to fight for a starting place under new coach Thomas Frank.

Son Heung-min is now in talks with all the relevant parties. But any move is unlikely to happen immediately, as he is likely to be part of Tottenham's pre-season tour of Asia.

Notably, Spurs could suffer a financial loss if they sell Son Heung-min before the match against Newcastle in Seoul on August 3. According to the terms of the tour contract, if Son Heung-min does not play, Tottenham will lose up to 75% of the fee they receive from the organizing partner. In case Son Heung-min travels with the team but does not play, Spurs will still lose half the amount.

This is the main reason why Tottenham's board of directors are carefully considering the timing of their decision.

Son Heung-min is considered an Asian football icon and a hugely popular star in his home country of South Korea and across the continent. Last season, he scored seven goals and provided nine assists in 30 Premier League appearances, becoming the first Spurs captain to lift the trophy since 2008, when he won the title under Ange Postecoglou.

Coach Thomas Frank has spoken out about Son's future and confirmed that he is happy if the Korean captain continues to stay. "At the moment, I have a player who is completely dedicated and training very well," he shared. "If a player has been with the club for a long time, the club must also make decisions appropriate to the situation."

In terms of transfers, Spurs have been quite active, successfully recruiting Mohammed Kudus from West Ham, making the loan deal of Mathys Tel official, and welcoming young talents such as Kato Takai (Japan) and Luka Vuskovic (Hajduk Split). However, Nottingham Forest's pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White is currently stalled, after Forest accused Tottenham of "illegally approaching", despite Spurs activating a £60 million release clause.

Son Heung-min's future is the focus of media and fans, as Tottenham must balance financial, sporting and global image factors.
