On October 2, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee held a ceremony to announce the book series "History of Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City". The series includes 5 volumes and 1 abridged volume, a work that combines profound scientific , ideological, theoretical and practical values; comprehensively and systematically reflecting the history of the birth, construction and development of Ho Chi Minh City.
The book series, co-chaired by Prof. Dr. Vo Van Sen and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Xuan Bien, chaired by the Ho Chi Minh City Historical Science Association, was implemented since 2014 and accepted at the City level in 2020 with excellent results.
The book series includes more than 4,500 pages, compiled and edited from April 2015 to July 2025. Volume 1 is the Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City region from its origin to the 16th century; volume 2 is Saigon - Gia Dinh from the early 17th century to the mid-19th century; volume 3 is Saigon - Cho Lon - Gia Dinh from 1859 to 1945; volume 4 is Saigon - Gia Dinh from 1945 to 1975; volume 5 is Ho Chi Minh City from 1975 to 2015; volume 6 is Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City (abridged).
Prof. Dr. Vo Van Sen, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Historical Science Association, Head of the project, said that the project addresses many important scientific contents, many issues have been raised and clarified. "The city and the whole country expand the local administrative space, the precious book series "History of Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City" is like a gift of knowledge serving all classes of people to research, consult, learn, study and educate traditions, in the process of creative development", Prof. Dr. Vo Van Sen said.
Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Duong Anh Duc, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, said: Over the past 300 years, the land of Saigon has gradually taken shape and continuously developed, playing a central role in the South today.
“Ho Chi Minh City continues to affirm its role and position as an economic and cultural center not only for the South but also for the whole country, becoming a leading locomotive in the role of a major center of economics, finance, trade, culture, science and technology, innovation, education and training of the Southern key economic region and the whole country, an important gateway connecting with the region and the world,” said Mr. Duong Anh Duc.
The Standing Committee of the City Party Committee has organized the printing of 1,000 sets of books to send to central agencies, scientific research agencies, schools, museums, grassroots bookcases and provinces and cities, in order to promote the multifaceted value of the book series on politics, ideology, historical documents, contributing to the propaganda and education of revolutionary traditions for cadres, party members and people of the city.
At the announcement ceremony, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee awarded certificates of merit to 4 groups and 13 individuals who had outstanding achievements in implementing this book series.
