Ho Chi Minh City to completely handle self-opened walkways across railways

Ho Chi Minh City has completely handled the situation of self-opened walkways, after receiving a request from the Vietnam Railway Authority.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just issued a document directing departments, branches and localities to strengthen the work of ensuring order in railway traffic safety corridors and thoroughly handle the situation of self-opened walkways, after receiving a request from the Vietnam Railway Authority.

Accordingly, the Ho Chi Minh City Police are required to continue to strengthen patrols and controls on railway lines passing through the area, especially in complicated locations with potential safety risks. The authorities will arrange inspections during rush hours, promptly and strictly handle violations, especially at "hot spots" of self-opened walkways and encroachment on railway safety corridors.

The Department of Construction coordinates with railway agencies, enterprises and local authorities to inspect and strictly handle cases of construction and repair of works within the safety corridor. At the same time, the Department is also responsible for reviewing and supplementing the system of signs and warnings at railway-road intersections, focusing on high-risk points. In particular, the People's Committees of Tan Dong Hiep and Di An wards must urgently handle the self-opened walkways at Km1705+500 and Km1707+175, and at the same time study the project to build a replacement service road.

The Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Safety Committee was assigned to promote the dissemination of railway laws, raise public awareness, and mobilize households and businesses to commit to not violating traffic safety corridors.

The People's Committees of localities where railways pass through must take primary responsibility for managing and protecting railway infrastructure according to regulations, coordinating the handling of violations and preventing new ones. While it is not possible to eliminate self-opened paths, localities need to reasonably divide traffic, limit the circulation of heavy vehicles, install adequate warning signs and arrange forces to regularly inspect.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Department of Construction, as the Standing Office of the City Traffic Safety Committee, to monitor and report on implementation results. If there are any difficulties or problems beyond their authority, the units must promptly report to the City People's Committee for consideration and resolution.

Strengthening management and thoroughly handling self-opened paths is expected to contribute to ensuring safety for people and limiting the risk of railway accidents in Ho Chi Minh City.
