According to a VNA reporter in Japan, when mentioning unique experiences in Tokyo, many international tourists often immediately think of teamLab Planets in Toyosu - a globally famous interactive digital art space since 2018. Over the past 7 years, this place has become a "heaven of light" attracting young people, international tourists and souls passionate about modern art.
From the outside, visitors are greeted by the work “The Universe of Fire Particles Haunting Heaven and Earth.” The bright red flame is the main character of this space. When a smartphone is brought close, the flame on the screen flares up fiercely, and when another device is brought close, the flame spreads as if being passed from one person to another. From the very first moment, visitors clearly feel a source of energy that is both mystical and modern.
Before embarking on the journey of discovery , visitors must remove their shoes, as many areas inside are designed for barefoot walking. The feeling of direct contact with the floor, with water or with stone creates a different connection, bringing people closer to the work.

Stepping through the hallways, visitors embark on an adventure into a series of magical rooms. The room is surrounded by a vibrant projection screen, with a giant round table in the middle. When visitors place their hands or objects on the table, tiny figures appear, dancing or climbing depending on the shape of the object.
On the wall, the mushroom-shaped seals, sheepfolds, and long ice bars create corresponding movements: blocking the rain, forming ladders, or dropping beaming seeds. When the objects touch, they resonate, turning the entire wall into a giant musical instrument.
Leaving the tiny room, visitors enter a three-dimensional ecosystem. Here, each person can take a sheet of paper to color a creature and put it into a scanner. Within minutes, that creature comes to life on the walls and floor, moving among countless other species. The floor is covered with soft cushions, making each step feel like being lost in a fairy tale forest.
All around, thousands of flowers bloom, wither, and revive in real time. When a hand touches the wall, new flowers sprout from it. Visitors become part of the natural cycle.
Entering the next room, visitors see swirls of light moving incessantly. As they walk back towards the waterfall of light, each step leaves a trail of swirls of light behind them, as if the movement of the body itself has the power to change the space.
In this space, each stone vibrates when stepped on, glows and emits a unique sound. These effects spread to the invisible world of microorganisms, making visitors feel that every small step can impact an entire ecosystem.
The next space was filled with rapidly rotating spheres. When a visitor stepped on them, the spheres would immediately stop spinning, stand still, and make a sound. If they continuously stepped on spheres of the same color, a series of light particles would burst out, giving birth to caterpillars, and when the journey ended, a whole swarm of colorful caterpillars would appear.
Multi-colored horizontal bars are suspended by wires, creating a unique three-dimensional space. Visitors climb and move between the bars, testing their dexterity and experiencing the feeling of flying. Each bar lights up and makes a sound when stepped on.
Flocks of birds fly freely, taking colors from the bars where visitors are standing, creating a lively and surprising scene.
In the “extinct creatures collection” area, visitors use their phones to “capture” species that have disappeared from the Earth, as a reminder of nature conservation.
Meanwhile, the next space was filled with giant eggs of light. When pushed or blown by the wind, the eggs would fall and bounce, creating a resonant sound. The other eggs would react in turn, causing the entire space to vibrate like a piece of music. When the wind died down, everything quieted down, creating a rare sense of peace.
Visitors pass through the dark corridor and suddenly step into a water area. The feeling of wading in cool water under shimmering light makes many people feel as if they have just left the real world. Before their eyes appears a brilliant waterfall, illuminating the entire space.
The mirror room reflects countless points of light, making visitors feel as if they are standing in the middle of a galaxy. Using their smartphones, each person can choose a star to “throw” into space, and that star will instantly transform into a work of light. This moment of standing in the universe of light is described by many visitors as both overwhelming and meditative.
Visitors continue to walk barefoot in the warm water, where glowing Koi fish swim around. The Koi move with each step and at special moments, they transform into blooming cherry blossoms - a romantic and unforgettable scene.
In the dark room, when the hand touches the water, immediately a series of streams of water light up, spreading like magic. This transformation makes visitors feel like they really hold the power to control nature.
The space is filled with glowing orbs. When visitors touch or push them, they change color, transmitting signals to other orbs, creating a chain reaction. The resonant light illuminates the entire room, as if people themselves are breathing life into the space.
In this room, visitors can sit or lie down, letting their bodies float among millions of light flowers. The flowers never repeat, as they are all created in real time. Every moment here is unique, making everyone immersed in a vague feeling between reality and illusion.
The final stop is the orchid garden hanging upside down from the ceiling. The space is filled with fragrance, changing with the time of day, simulating the co-evolution of flowers and insects. Visitors feel like they are lost in a fairy garden where flowers bloom all year round, always moving with the light.
What makes teamLab Planets special is the emotional integration.
Each room is not only a work of art but also a world where visitors can directly interact. From the moment of stepping into the water with bare feet, to witnessing flowers blooming under your hands or Koi fish turning into cherry blossoms, all leave unforgettable memories.
TeamLab Planets is more than just a digital art museum. It is a journey to remind people of their strong relationship with nature. Despite the modern technology surrounding them, the ultimate message remains: humans are always a part of the natural world./.
