The focus is on propagating and mobilizing people to exploit the potential and advantages of planting forests to cover bare land, contributing to restructuring investment in the forestry sector.

Afforestation to cover bare land associated with sustainable forestry economic development Large timber forest planted in Xuan Thai commune (Nhu Thanh).

As a result, the annual forest planting area in Nhu Thanh district has increased. By August 2024, Nhu Thanh district has nearly 34,000 hectares of forest. From 2016 to August 2024, communes, towns, and State forest owners in the district have newly planted 3,782.5 hectares of large timber forests; converted 448.5 hectares of small timber forests to large timber forests; and enclosed and restored 92.9 hectares of green lim forest. Every year, raw wood and other forest products are provided for the processing and construction industries; more jobs are created for people and income is raised, improving the lives of households working in forestry. In 2024, Nhu Thanh district has implemented a plan to plant and replant 1,500 hectares of production forests after exploitation. By early August 2024, the whole district has newly planted nearly 1,200 hectares of production forests. Many households that have contracted forests and forestry land have built integrated farms, organized production forest planting and raised livestock and poultry under the forest canopy, creating more jobs on the spot and improving their lives.

In 2024, Thanh Hoa province will achieve the goal of planting and replanting 10,000 hectares of forest after exploitation, including 1,500 hectares of forest using tissue culture trees. In order to reforest bare land and hills associated with improving productivity and quality of planted forests, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has focused on directing localities and forest owners to proactively use high-quality varieties in forest planting (tissue culture trees). In nurseries in the province, more than 1 million tissue culture trees have been prepared to serve the expansion of forest planting area using tissue culture trees. Functional units and localities have provided guidance on new forest planting techniques; directed the completion of technical design of silvicultural works; and prepared forest planting sites.

In the first 7 months of 2024 alone, individuals, families and organizations in the province have planted and replanted 7,500 hectares of forest after exploitation, of which about 1,250 hectares were planted with tissue-cultured trees, mainly acacia. From 2021 to now, the whole province has planted and replanted more than 6,250 hectares of concentrated forest with tissue-cultured trees. As a result, by August 2024, the total forest area of the province had increased to 647,737 hectares. Of which, the whole province has stably developed a large timber forest business area of 56,000 hectares.

To improve the efficiency of afforestation associated with sustainable forestry economic development, functional sectors and localities strengthen management and use of high-quality forestry varieties in large timber plantations (tissue cultured trees) and apply intensive afforestation measures to improve productivity and quality of planted forests. Attract businesses to invest in afforestation projects along the chain from production to processing, build raw material areas through supporting forest growers to purchase products.
