(PLVN) - Before the merger with Lao Cai province, Yen Bai province has completed 2,208 houses in the temporary housing elimination project in 2025, 78 days ahead of schedule and 3 times the initial expected support budget.

At the summary conference held this morning (June 25), Yen Bai province officially announced the completion of the Project to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Yen Bai province by 2025.

The report of the Project Steering Committee said that the whole Yen Bai province has supported the renovation and repair of 2,208/2,208 houses, of which 1,815 houses were newly built and 393 houses were repaired, reaching 100% of the set target .

The houses in the project, when completed, must meet minimum standards on area, structure, solidity and safety according to regulations, in accordance with practical conditions and customs and practices of each region and each ethnic group.

The project was initially built with a total budget of more than 120 billion VND. However, with high political determination and broad social consensus, during the implementation process, Yen Bai province mobilized an additional 242 billion VND from socialized resources outside the budget.

Thereby, the total actual resources are 3 times higher than the initial estimated budget, creating an important foundation to complete the Project ahead of schedule and improve the quality of housing support for poor households.

Of the total number of houses renovated, 30% are worth 200 million VND or more, 41% are worth 100 - 200 million VND. Along with that, there are 1,611 houses with kitchens and toilets, 55 houses are newly granted land use rights when participating in the Project.

The average value for a newly built house under the Project is over 180 million VND/house, 3.1 times higher than the State's support level. The average value for a repaired house under the Project is 60 million VND/house, 2 times higher than the State's support level.

At the conference, local leaders shared experiences, good, creative, practical ways of doing things as well as difficulties in the process of implementing the Project. Thereby, attracting and mobilizing groups and individuals to join hands to implement the Project to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for people quickly and effectively.

Typically, Tran Yen and Mu Cang Chai districts proactively guarantee that households can receive advance payments for construction materials from local dealers to promptly implement housing construction.

In addition, the People's Committees of districts such as Van Chan, Yen Binh and Nghia Lo town have advanced local budgets to pay in advance support funds for households, helping people to proactively use resources to build houses.

Notably, Nghia Lo Town has awarded 32 households that completed their houses before March 30, 2025. Tram Tau District has also awarded communes with outstanding achievements in eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses.

In his concluding remarks, Mr. Tran Huy Tuan - Secretary of Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee assessed that in recent years, the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses has always received special attention from Party committees and authorities at all levels, considering this an important political task, associated with the goal of socio -economic development and sustainable poverty reduction. In particular, the particularly difficult district with the largest number of newly built and repaired houses in Yen Bai province, Mu Cang Chai, "reached the finish line" first with 771/771 houses completed since June 3, 2025.

According to statistics from 2021 to 2024, Yen Bai province has supported the construction of over 7,400 houses for meritorious people, poor households, and near-poor households. In addition, Yen Bai has actively supported the construction of houses for households affected by natural disasters, storms and floods, and mobilized additional resources to support the construction of houses for households outside the Project.
