Every day, three shifts, three officers and soldiers on duty at the Lang Son border gate area under the management of the Huu Nghi Border Guard Station prepare their military equipment and patrol along the border to detect, trace and prevent the smuggling of goods across the border.

Pointing to a road that used to be a place for transporting contraband goods, now overgrown with grass due to lack of traffic, Major Nguyen Huu Quy said that in recent years, due to the epidemic situation, both China and Vietnam have increased border tightening measures. Therefore, the situation of illegal border crossings as well as smuggling of contraband goods through unofficial channels has been almost completely prevented.

Major Trinh Duong Kieu, an officer at Chi Ma Border Guard Station (standing in the middle), said that in the past, the area around landmark number 1231 often saw people illegally transporting poultry from China to Vietnam.
